Work Permit (WP) is generally issued to unskilled or semi-skilled migrant workers. Not allowed to bring their family over.

But EP and SP holders can. This is the contentious issue which some disagree with. I think the dependents end up overburdening our already overcrowded and strained medical & transport services.

The issue is...if we don't allow their families to come and stay together with EP and SP holders, they may not want to stay long in their work . In my company, we need these high skill workers with experience. I had one very capable and experienced colleague left my company and went back to Myanmar because his family didn't want to stay in Singapore. Actually some colleagues worked very hard and willing to accept relatively low wages because their kids can come and study in Singapore.
