Trying for DSA for the first time really opens up my eyes. While we are only trying for schools within / slightly better than our child’s academic ability, but it seems like there are many sports DSA parents trying for pure IP schools even when the kids’ results are like > AL 15. To remember the entry to the school is only the beginning, not the end. Whether or not the child can thrive in the school in the next 4-6 years is very important to us, but doesn’t seem so to some. Also, DSA in itself is highly competitive and serves more as an experience. If child fails to get in, at least it’s still possible to get in by results if he/she is not trying for a far fetched school in the first place.

Most of these students who is scoring above 15 and managed to enter IP schools with cutoff 8 or less will suffer big time over the next few years.

          Go ask around.

Congratulation on your son being shortlisted for HCI Science / Math. All the best to him!

Would you mind sharing your son's portfolio, the science / Math activities involved and the awards achieved? Is he a GEP student (my son is not a GEP student, heard GEP student is at higher chance to be shortlisted by default)

This will be helpful for us to prepare my son for next year's application.

            Thank you so much!

Hci usu split up the acad domain in diff class n 1 of my boy happens to be assign to a class w those under math domain.. nope not all are under gep but I would say mostly r from gep.. from what I observe it's purely by merit but gep kids especially those talented in math they definitely have better grasping power than non gifted 1(tts what makes them gifted)I suppose.

Yes I totally agrees.. no doubt these sch offers better curriculum n opportunities but if the child can't cope it's pointless can only stress up the child n the parents.. finding a sch tts of a better fit is more impt.

Hi if possible pls share your selection camp experience to us. Do we need to prepare anything?
Nothing to prepare. The candidates would go around few stations (chemistry, physics, bio) to perform their hands on activities and briefed the teachers on their findings. Teachers would go around station by station too. Last activity was a group based. Altogether 5-6 activities to perform, including 1 writing task. HTH

                  Hi parents,

For those who are sure that your kid won’t get in the NUSH camp this sat, may I know how do you determine? Your kid said they can’t do most of the questions? How’s the selection test questions?

I asked my kid, but he kept quiet. He said he is not supposed to tell me anything… So I can’t get anything out from him…

My kid said she did Math well and had no clue about science. Her classmate said could answer well.....we know the classmate is smart kid with Olympiad medals. My kid has no medals.

My kiddo said the math portion was similar to the math olympiad - slightly more challenging ..... she said there were around 30 qns and she wasn't sure of the answers for around 5 of them (so that in itself already tells us she wont make the cut) .... Also, the qns are open ended i.e. not MCQ 😃 For the science, it was also around 30 MCQ qns .... most of the topics are outside the syllabus but there would be information within the questions themselves that the candidate would be able to deduce the answers .... highly logical, according to my kiddo so she found the science portion ok. I am sure she would not make it as she does not participate in many competitions (only did 2 math competitions through the school and scored ok for just one of them) plus she is very careless - so all the more no hope! We signed up for the assessment really for the experience and have no expectations at all 😃
