Totally agree!
Yes I totally agrees.. no doubt these sch offers better curriculum n opportunities but if the child can't cope it's pointless can only stress up the child n the parents.. finding a sch tts of a better fit is more impt. -

Exactly my thought. That’s why I refused to DSA my son to an IP school because I know his academic standard is not up to that. Even for O level DSA, we also pick a back up school with different banding.
Trying for DSA for the first time really opens up my eyes. While we are only trying for schools within / slightly better than our child’s academic ability, but it seems like there are many sports DSA parents trying for pure IP schools even when the kids’ results are like > AL 15. To remember the entry to the school is only the beginning, not the end. Whether or not the child can thrive in the school in the next 4-6 years is very important to us, but doesn’t seem so to some. Also, DSA in itself is highly competitive and serves more as an experience. If child fails to get in, at least it’s still possible to get in by results if he/she is not trying for a far fetched school in the first place.
That also opens up an option to Sports School as it will be more athlete friendly and he will receive more attention and holistic support. -
Although my child not in sport. But to give a fair judgement, not all dive into IP becoz of IP stream. It might be due to the coach the particular school is having.

Got to rem CCA is only one aspect of sch life. If the child cannot cope with the daily academic rigour, it’s gg to be very painful. I speak from experience as I did sports my whole life (but got in by results) and though there was no DSA during our time, there was “back door” and saw a few sports ppl suffer, repeat or even drop out of school.

Could you please help to clarify if you have received notification for round 2 this year already ?
The notification came quite late this year. In comparison, last year we received the notification on July 8th, and the camp took place on July 16th. -
My DD says must atleast try for DSA in 3-4 points higher school…else what is the point.
I kind of agree.
If you get 84x4 you get 12 points. If you get 85x4, you get 8.
In my opinion, not much difference between the two students. -

I shared with the group earlier that i called NUS High this morning and was informed that the results were not out yet. (See earlier post). Not sure if they released anything since then though. Thanks.

Yea ofcourse. If not, just get in by PSLE. 3-4 points are okay but not like 10 points different. But I think the schools also do their screening, can’t accept students who are too far off?

My elder child who is in dual track school also shared that some sports DSA students do very well, cos they study well to begin with, PSLE around cut off point. But some entered purely based on sports merits, those really struggle and teachers also cannot care much all the time.
