Not interested in the specific debate. However, I am curious as to what you define as \"not even similar?\"
The clutching-at-straws mentality over 1% and 1 point difference is really not helpful.
Assuming the size of the cohort is similar, we are probably talking about a difference of less than 10 students. When the size of the cohort is not even similar (as in the case here), any discussion / comparison is moot when the data is incomplete.
...
RI was 1,126 students this year (2022 A Levels), I would think HCI is ~1,000+ or within 10% (roughly speaking). -

U are right, both JC sections are largest in Singapore, both took in about 800 IP + 300 to 350 JAE students every year. Their cohort size is similar.

HCI college total intake around 1000, whereas RI is around 1200. 20% difference

Both schools take in about 800 at IP and another 300-400 at JAE; COPs at both points are pretty close. The A Level results are within spitting difference, and I wouldn't conclude A > B or B > A. And even if I did, I don't think it matters; it's always about the individual student. Net-net, similar intake, similar results on a percentage basis. Just like primary schools with X% or Y% above 250/AL8; no one ever nitpicks exact cohort size there?
Within 10% of 1,126 is 1,013 or 1,238. How can that be “similar”?
Eg. 6 out of 10 (taken at its absolute 60%) means a range of 607 to 742 students if +-10%. 6 out of 10 (again, at 60%) means 675 students from 1,126 students. Then, when you consider the possible range of 6 out of 10 (high 50s to low 60s), the whole comparison is pointless.
But like the millennials will say to those who die die must win, it’s ok. I clap for you
What's not \"similar?\" I would say things are not similar if one was a 1,000+ cohort and one was a cohort of a couple/few hundred that was managed year-to-year on a very tight basis (i.e. who can actually sit for the final exam has already directed the results one way or the other).
There's nothing to clap about, just don't see how the size of the cohort is not even similar (your specific statement). -

What I know about both college intake:
Both schools take in about 800 at IP and another 300-400 at JAE;
RI college 1200: 1/3 from RI junior high, 1/3 from RGS and 1/3 from JAE
HCI college 1000: 1/3 from HCI high school, 1/3 from NYGH and 1/3 from JAE -

I think the total is closer? If RI takes in 1,200 but last year only 1,126 took the A Levels, what happened to the rest?

All feeder schools took in about 400 at sec 1. Every school had 12 classes for each cohort. Very very few goes o level or retain each year. Almost all made it to their JC sections. I had visited both schools before, they are vast campus and both equipped like tertiary school. Beautiful libraries, swimming pool, gyms, advance science labs. If they took in less students, it is a waste of tax payer money. There is certainly an element of competition between them, see how RI updated the median this morning, they want u to talk and argue about it.

Well, HCI info I heard from the principal. RI I think I read it from their official site or somewhere official can’t remember exactly. My guess is: Excluding the JAE, the 400/300 per junior school are intake vacancy cater for during Sec 1 intake. Throughout the junior high years some student could have transfered to O level/transfer out, went on to study overseas after year 4. I also think HCI college number will not be still exactly 1000 student after 6 years and taking A level too.

Reason I share is because I think 1200 and 1000 has significant difference during interpreting the academic outcome performance -

OK, I thought the two schools were within ~100 students of each other at the JC level. If that is wrong, then I stand corrected.
