Go to your target schools RI, HCI, CHS, DHS and RVHS website and check out the criteria for DSA Leadership. Eg RI stated in previous years the criteria & you can take reference from there. Vice head prefect is not listed so you’ll probably be wasting if put it as one of your 3 choices.

RI’s FAQ is pretty comprehensive IMO. Snapshot here:

U can check out the other schools yourself.

        Add on to advices above

        1) firstly, choose wisely on school with ur son. Can be ANY school including RI/HCI. DSA is not everything though. Dont stress too much on it.
        2) talk to your son’s badminton coach for his opinion and connections. Ideally ur son is top 10 ranked in division? No national comps besides NSG? Be mindful kids who play better than him also must have abt AL10 to enter best schools…?
        3) I doubt leadership is “easier” than sports. leadership may have more slots but then again many more candidates. notwithstanding, believe your kid will get a chance to interview at least, based on his solid profile. Performance in interview is the deal-clincher

        All the best

Take note of the phrase \"as evidenced in any or all of the following\" in RI's FAQ. If RI is one of your son's choices, just go ahead and apply.

Dear parents, I’d like to ask : if I see a school that offers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Aesthetics and Mathematics) as DSA - what exactly are they looking for and what do we use to apply? For example, using Maths and Science as considered academics but in STEAM there’s Maths and Science mentioned. Will robotics fall under here?

They are looking for talent who has multidisciplinary skillset, i.e. be good in Math, Science, Robotics (Engineering / Technology), etc and able to innovate and create feasible solution.

              As per the https://nationaljc.moe.edu.sg/curriculum/junior-high-integrated-programme/subjects-offered-in-junior-high/steamnjc/:
\"Problem solving in our world today is complex, multi-faceted and interdisciplinary, edged at the interface of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. In STEAM@NJC, we seek to nurture the next generation of collaborative innovators and problem solvers with strong empathy, resilience, creativity and curiosity to learn.\"

No easy or hard. just try with his target school (school that you really want him to enter if by PSLE result, usually should be the schools around the cut off score that is slightly better than his current AL score).
AL8 is a good score to be considered by any of the schools you listed above. Do consider the location as i noticed you are listing the top IP schools. The sec school time ends quite late and spending time to travel is very tiring.

The interview is the last stage, depending how many spots the schools are looking to fill up and how many students they shortlist to interview.

Sports domain is very straightforward - the ranking in NSG/key events is most important.

                Good luck!
                :thankyou: Appreciated.

Understood that now is too early to choose which school to go. Try not to stress myself and my wife nor even dare talk about it with him at this moment (but will talk to him after mid-yr exam in May). I just take my times to gather facts & ideas about these schools bcoz it's important to him as this will change his life once decided (with no regret). Visiting these schools during open house will be a must to have a closer look and feel.

Thanks for the idea to talk to his coach to go other comps. I also wanted to see how far he can go (skills and rank). Agree and always hv this thought that out there sure got other kids play better & got better AL scores than him.

Perhaps will seek his school teacher's guidance and assistance to sharpening his interview skills if shortlisted for interview then.

                  AHsDad > Thanks. :salute:

                    Also,
imagine, 180 pri sch with 6 exco in their Prefectorial board each,
+ their respective CCA head in those 180 pri sch

leadership should have more potential applicants than badminton.

                      Totally agree.
Pray hard that my DS profile (Vice Head Prefect + CCA badminton Captain + AL8 (if maintain during cut-off)) able to out beat those potential and get shortlisted... 🙏

I think for your child to get shortlisted (Vice Head Prefect) isn’t difficult. The challenge is to display the qualities beyond what’s being presented.

if you read the criteria for Leadership talent area, most schools (especially IP and popular schools) are going beyond profile and asking for concrete evidences / actual display of leadership in action. Those are the questions that will trip over most students because beyond this title and that title, a lot of them don’t have the experience of organizing community / school based activities that impact a sizable group of people.
