Yes, I can confirm (at least from last year) that SOTA is separate from MOE’s DSA limit of 3 schools. Note also that SOTA uses an earlier deadline and there are procedural steps to complete (e.g. registering for access to their TA Portal etc.). Not difficult but the earlier deadline threw us off as we were not paying attention and almost missed submitting our DS’ application in time.

May I know what is the chances to DSA to SST / Cat High (Math) for the following profile :-

                RIPWMC: 2022 - distinction
                APMOPS: 2022 - participation
                RIPWMC: 2023 - participation
                APMOPS: 2023 - Bronze
                Participate in RVMC
                Yearly Edusave Award & scholarships

Not going to apply of the chances is not high. Thanks.

I suggest u bring your son to SST Open House and ask your burning qns, get a feel of the place & culture:

                  https://sites.google.com/sst.edu.sg/2023-sst-open-house/open-house-programmes

My friend’s son did not have any Olympiad experience or accolades at all. Simply AL1 and Math & Science (other subjects not so stellar), coupled with strong interest in robotics (no awards either). The main selection is via the entrance test. And then interview/group activity project. He got WL which was converted in the end.

There is strong indication SST acceptance (SUTD for tertiary level) is based on like 35% academics and 65% passions for STEM. So base on this, the more important question you have to ask yourself/ your child is, how much passion is there for STEM. There is a reason why SST admissions are via DSA only.
