For this IP sch in the east, it is known to be a mugger driven school. Based on real life examples in the past, athletes scoring less than 75% average are not even called up for sports trials no matter how many medals were won. This is one peculiar sch where acads are more impt than the sport and that is why their sports are typically not powerhouse.
Thanks phtthp and SG_KP1 for your feedback.
I guess different schools will filter differently. But here is a real-life case:
My friend's son is P6 this year, and is very good in Wushu, winning quite a number of medals over the years. He also scored well academically in P4 and P5, getting AL6 for P5 end exams. However, for P6 mid year his pri school unexpectedly hit the P6 students with Olympiad-level papers for all subjects, resulting in his AL14 score. Nonetheless he applied DSA Wushu to an IP school in the east, but did not get pass the 1st round of shortlisting.
My friend then checked with his friend's friend, who is a staff from this IP school, and got the feedback that the school will look at the kids' P6 mid year result first. If that is beyond their preset threshold, then hard cheese...

For clarity, there are two IP schools in the east that accept Wushu DSA - one is a boys’ school while the other is a mixed school.

The boys’ school is one of the traditional sport powerhouses (still dominant in some sports,) while the mixed school isn’t anywhere remotely close to owning a sport

Anyway, since the schools set different DSA criteria regardless of what they tell the public, I guess we'll just need to do our own research, and as zac's mum put it, to set the appropriate expectation. And treat it as an experience to harden the kids.
Thanks for your feedback guys! -

I am referring to the pure IP school.

I’ll just state it right here, in case u didnt know yet. Schools like DHS and HCI are known to filter Sports DSA applicants (and also performing arts & other non-academic DSA domains) based on academic results. Their bar is pretty high.

Yes, therefore, the rule is always do your research BEFORE the DSA application commences. What the school puts up on their website or says during public engagement, such as Open Houses, are often the standard criteria, aka the lowest denominator. The rule of the thumb is, the more popular the school, the more stringent the filter will likely be.

Back to Wushu as an example.
The particular boys' school in the east has been among the top 4 in the NSG for Wushu for a number of years running. Therefore, you can expect them to set high expectations, such as the formula I used as an example previously, or to consider medalists from the last 2 years only, or exponents in some events only, etc. The other school, which isn't dominant in boys' Wushu, may be more lenient in terms of sport achievements when coming up with a shortlist. However, in this particular school, academic achievements are known to have a higher priority. Thus, while they are lenient in terms of sport achievements, they may not be as lenient in their academic requirements.
In conclusion, it pays to know what the (secondary) schools are looking for and to consider / accept more options during the research and exploratory phase. -

Any idea if NYGH, RGS and SNGS also filter based on academic results first? Tks..

(Another one that filters by academics is NJC.) -

All schools will \"filter\" to a certain extent to make sure that the students are able to cope with the academic rigour required in that school and stream. From the results submitted, the schools can estimate the students' PSLE results and that they are not too far off from the COP. They will also interview to discern if the students are able to cope with both the DSA needs and the school academic standards.
