i feel its right for gov to take more care on seniors - so can reduce & cushion the strains of their children to handle the medical expenses ... but i think more can still be given to them on healthcare- seeing a doc is so ex. I paid $60 for a recent throat inflammation , over $60 plus for a flu before too ... how are the olds going to handle such high medical costJanet
Those born in 1950-1959 will be the Merdeka Generation ie MG.
I will get the $100 top up n Medisave account and that 50% tax rebate capped at $200.
yes cost of living is high (depends on personal & individual lifestyle) , then some households need to cut on luxury on transport , restaurants n sending kids to enrichment classes , or sought to dual income structure , hopefully these families are not taxed by the elder parents if G can take gd care of them .
Actually Sing food and transport fare is not that ex compared to developed areas in asia of hk, Jap, korea, aust ,taiwan - we can get $2.5 to $3.8 chicken rice / economy rice /breakfast set - how to find one in other developed countries ? ( no need to compare msia, indo, thai, etc we are way above class in std of living ) our only ex purchases are cars and housings - again depends on whether one is going to stay in hdb or private ... a lot of older people bought 3rm hdb at $20k and selling at $300k now even in yishun estates -can't complain much right ... young grad pay is so much higher compared to my times of $1600+ - i got low pay and my hdb was low cost too .... now higher pay , higher hdb cost - thats how things work.... basic cost of living, we are still ok .... i dislike the 10 per cent serv charge most - should just impose on hotels and posh places only

I feel the public transport cost is high as I need to top up (each time $10) my ezlink card very often. A short trip out of the house is easily $1+.
I do agree that the taxes collected should be used to help the old, sick and needy.
Well, we continue to work to pay taxes to help the less fortunate
-
Star , if u can recall jap transport , nz, aust buses are ex lei

Ya, I hope our taxes paid channel to help needy too
Take bus here is much cheaper . Train then transfer to buses is few cents -

those born in 1950s missed out on pioneer generation. there are many baby boomers...my father has 7 siblings, mum has 6. some families have more. by giving the merdeka generation more medical benefits, it will somehow lessen the financial burden on the kids. i spent easily $100 all because of eczema :moneyflies:

younger grad now earn slightly more, but even if they are willing to buy hdb flats, it's $300k onwards for CCK BTO and that excludes the interest. raising kids is not cheap either. couples have to work (dual incomes) to sustain costs of bringing up kids and paying for hdb mortgage. if grandparents can't take care, it means the little one will be packed off to infant care after mum's 4 month maternity leave is over.
if both parents are working and the kids need tuition because he/she is weak, that's additional costs incurred.
we don't patronise restaurants because of the +++...very heartache to pay. -

Like your phrase "if grandparents can’t take care, it means the little one will be packed off to infant care after mum’s 4 month maternity leave is over. "
Poor little ones … -
I recalled when we first came out to work, our salary around 1.6k and we got a really old run down resale 3rm flat due to timing and budget constraint that cost us $120k+(yeah should be around 120) I think. I heartpain too with the 10% svs charge but well luckily we have options so not too bad …driving car is not cheap…still public transport is cheapest I think…but if few family going out then more worth it to drive …if only I going out to run errands and the place is very near mrt and I m not rushing then I will take mrt and do my walking exercise at same time.

Compare to other developed countries, the cost of our public transport is still reasonable. With the starting fare at 83 cts, the next fare stage is 93 cts, then 103 cts etc. So a trip from Hillview to city area say Bugis, it can easily costs $1.50.
-
If max out, say from West to East or North to South, around how much?

Ok, I just feel that I need to top up my ezlink card very often and hence I feel that the fares are expensive
