Yes, news used to publish student X from Y sch scored the highest ... I would prefer to read reports on exceptional cases who worked hard under challenging situations to make it to a sec sch etc.
I think it's good that PSLE is no longer such a newsworthy event, and hopefully will become less nerve-wracking for those taking it (and their parents!). Glad the media are cooperating with MOE on this. -
Extract from one of the news articles:

My advice to my 30-year-old self would be to focus on what matters to me personally and spend time on that, and not over-focus on the material. -

There was an article on a student whose hands were physically challenged to even hold a pen/pencil ...

These students beat all the odds to go all the way for PSLE -

My same exact thoughts. I was telling DH yesterday that PSLE thread in KSP was unusually quiet since the release of PSLE results, unlike say a decade ago when everyone would rush in to check which school has the highest T-score.
I remembered when the PSLE results were released, there was much coverage in the papers.
I hardly see any such news during the past few days.
Anyway, I am totally clueless on the new PSLE grading system.
I hope mums and dads with PSLE kids can get into the sch they aimed for.
PSLE is just one of the milestones in education. The result doesnt define the whole life but does give some help in the education path.
I remember back then how someone would report that NYPS’ highest reported T-score was 273 (for example) then another parent would share that the nation’s highest was likely set by Rulang Pri with a tscore of 274 so on and so forth.
The new AL banding seems to reduce (kiasu) parents’ obsession because there’s no single highest T-score but instead many who will share the honour of achieving AL4 points -

Thanks chief. Maybe also coz I kept telling her b4 results out that getting 8pt is actually not that easy one lor. The exam b4 prelim still ok can get 8pt even some at the unlucky spectrum of the AL range. Then comes prelim..we all errr already. So need to moderate her expectation. I asked her few times any chance of exceeding the minimum/base AL coz I was worry..and those words like mommy you are insulting me arh..I m dumb but not that dumb etc ..in a jokingly manner..no offence to anyone. She likes using words and actions to make us all laugh..ah..going to northern part of china...washing some thermal wears coz going to be colder there.
That's great! You have a very resilient kid there, @MrsKiasu.
Where are you going for your holidays? -

I also feel it..seems many only write to ask for opinions in ranking of choices and choosing schools.

Yeah you are right..stress and time mgt. Doctors & we were hoping it was just stress..i think our body can be really sensitive. It is not psychology sometimes but that organ(s) really gave out signs de. There were nothing much we can do. Just can scan that organ to eliminate some 'more common' cause of sudden byebye for eg. Scanned few organs ..then as usual the more we scan the more things we will discover ..so need follow ups.
Some of these issues can be due to stress. Check with her if there are really no more issues, then maybe postpone the appointments for a while and see? I find that many doctors like to recommend more and more checks for every little thing, \"just in case\". Up to you what you feel about that, and you can always refuse - there's no need to do everything the doctor suggests. Too many checks can in themselves cause stress.
Perhaps you can talk to her about next year - now may be too soon, but at some point before the next year begins. You can encourage her to look forward to learning and determine put in consistent effort, which includes setting a reasonable schedule and keeping to it, cutting back on time wasters and distractions, etc. The details will need to wait till timetables and CCAs are firm, but it's good to get her to think about these things ahead of time. Poor time management can also cause stress.
And while you want to let go more at this age, kids are still kids - they need reminders and someone to keep them on track till the habits are well-formed. You could help her put her schedule on the wall, get her to write down the rules and limits she has decided on, etc. Once the habits are well-ingrained, and she finds that she is coping well with her schoolwork and still has time for other activities, she may feel less stressed.
I think she probably hv a cca in mind already. But just that feasible or not etc coz that will tired her abit and probably not that easy to get points to offset later. Let's see how. For her, I think I better keep track with her results else last min stressful again. Hope I could be persistent enough tho. -
Can I check with you all… Sec1 need to start tuition immediately?

My Pilates’ classmate shared that her daughter planned to go RGS but her PSLE Tscore fell short of expectations so she went to another Sec sch to do her O levels.
Thanks slmkhoo. I hope she could get over it fast. Also hope she could learn that to achieve something that one desires, one must put in an appropriate amount of efforts. We know how much she put in. We were at juncture more than 1 time..to let go or hold on to their hands. Finally we decided to let go for both of them as that's what they want..and be prepared of whatever outcomes that may come. Generally there are 2 outcomes..cut off at 8..missed it, it won't matter much.. But I am feeling very relieved. She will be in a familiar environment. Though she told me there is no way she will not meet the minimum. I was still feeling a little anxious looking at the health situations. Think we can consider it as all goes well.
Her daughter aimed to go RI(JC) but again, her O levels results fell short of expectations and she went on to Temasek JC.
Fast forward, the girl finally got into NUS Med with 4As having done well at Temasek JC.
Not uncommon to have ups and downs in life. It builds resilience in kids. When the kids themselves want to do well, they will persevere and won’t give up, and one day they will just realize their dreams.
