Ah ok ok..totally forgotten abt that. The wild thoughts were everywhere..dh says maybe instead of resit with so much time available with worries of kid getting to half 'tangping' got to try get her keep moving.
You go listen to the talks by HCI (International), SJI (Int), ACS (Int) lah. All my friends who sent their kids there, parents and kids happy plus can get into local Uni. However, if the IB results less than ideal (lower than IB 35yo), choice of courses will be limited. -

Can I check what other pathways other than jC & Poly, with ultimate aim to getting a degree? Where else can we get a Diploma before we proceed to go for a degree. Last time we have friends taking LCCI etc but now almost never heard of it.
To apply to local universities, I don't know if a Singaporean who has studied in Singapore can offer non-standard qualifications (i.e. not A levels, IB or Poly grades) for admissions. Even if they can, they may be competing against international students for limited places.
If you are considering overseas universities:
MDIS has several diploma courses that I believe can lead to university courses, but probably not local universities. Can also look at SIM Global.
I know of parents who have sent kids to take Foundation year (UK or Australia) after O levels to prepare them to get into overseas universities.
For US universities, students can take SAT or ACT exams and apply to US universities with those scores. There are probably centres that help prepare students for those tests.
I don't know details of all these, but you should be able to find info online. I think it is possible to do some of these locally. -

My father has never really got over it; my mother has. She has told me how happy she is that I was willing to even give up working for a while to look after my family. Compared with my much more well-to-do brother and cousins (many lawyers and doctors among them), my kids are generally happier, less rebellious and less problematic. Not necessarily less successful either, though that is not that important to us.
I just guess ..your parents must be quite 'heartbroken'. Esp that their gen is an educated one and may very naturally expecting you to go the academic way. You are quite a rebellious kid arh.
I wouldn't say I didn't go the academic way - I have a BA, an MA and another Diploma, and a few other odd courses here and there! And I did fairly well in all of them. It's just that I'm not in a high-earning profession. -

Am aware of IP students switching to IB program at international schools - got into local and foreign universities, NAFA/some art schools for kids interested in anime/animation as well as foundation studies overseas.

Not all switch due to academic reasons - networking opportunities and exposure reasons were often mentioned as a reason.
Some form of self-study online in interest courses in the open uni platform. Read about apprenticeship programs at some MNCs but am not so familiar, not really research this option. DS mentioned it previously. -
For parents w girls studying overseas, how do you feel comfortable allowing her to stay overseas for 5y? Does anyone follow and stay for a couple months? Is this even possible if child is staying in uni dorm? Are you worried child may not eventually return post graduation. Is it correct to say that application has to start around sep even before A levels to avoid losing a year? Just want to understand the considerations of an overseas education.

Don't allow if you feel your child is not able to take care of herself. Or start teaching her early! This means basic stuff (diet, laundry, self-care, cooking, etc) as well as social/emotional (making friends, coping with homesickness, etc) and general \"adulting\" (paying bills, keeping to a budget, booking air tickets, etc). My husband went as \"bag carrier\" and stayed about 5 days to help buy stuff and carry them to her room, make sure she got her phone and bank set up, etc). She could have done the latter on her own, but she appreciated her father's muscles! My husband booked an Airbnb near the college for those few days.

If the child is fond of Singapore and the family, she will come home (eventually). On the other hand, she may fall in love with the overseas country, want to get a job there, decide to marry someone there, and choose to stay there (maybe a while, maybe for longer). If you send your child overseas, you have to be prepared for those eventualities, or don't send her. My daughter told me that she intended to return to Singapore, and already made up her mind not to get involved with a foreigner - of course, that could have changed, and I was prepared to accept it. I also told her she was free to work overseas, but she preferred to come back (Covid had something to do with that!). Airfares are not that expensive these days, so you can insist that she return home at least once a year, so she doesn't lose touch with Singapore.

Applications usually need to go in roughly a year in advance of the start date. It varies from country to country, and from university to university, so it's good to check early so you can be prepared. -

Both DH and myself studied overseas so perhaps our considerations are fewer or perhaps put less thoughts into it. Sole consideration is ensuring safety and this is resolved by staying in ensuite dorm just across the specific block - can see from room's window. There are non en-suite options. Condominium like with security, card access as well as conceige. Also possible to pay a bit more for a higher level unit.

Depending on the hostel, it is also possible to have studio like hostel with a small cooking area plus fridge. Laundromette is common.
We did not follow since accomodation had been settled pre-departure. Only packed a luggage of 父母的祝福
Read somewhere that 父母和儿女的缘份就是看着他们的背景 so while am emotional about it, it is also indeed true that being overseas can offer her more and will be good for her. DD did receive a job offer back here - but it was followed by an offer for postgraduate studies as well as other international options.
Given the macro developments, it may also be possible that she comes back to Asia or here under an overseas employer. Anything is possible.
DS preferred to remain here. Still young with couple of years more before a decision is needed.

Anyway I don't think overseas edu is suitable for her at this moment. We dont know the exact problems..yet..hold extra things on hand can spill the drinks

Also consider if your child is ready to study overseas unaccompanied. A friend of mine sent her 16yo daughter to Australia to do the foundation year (don't know why she didn't choose to do it locally), and the girl didn't settle well and had quite a lot of (undisclosed) issues. The mother had to fly over 7 times in that first year, sometimes at short notice. The daughter settled OK after that first year and completed a university degree, but it was a bad year for the family. Luckily she was the youngest child; imagine if there was a younger child and the mother had to keep travelling.
