DSA students in IP have to stay in the school for the 6 years. I don't know any exceptions can be made.
      Hi, thanks for reply.

DSA commitment is only to the 4 years (his is IP to a JC). No further commitment for the Sports in JC.

I read the offer letter also and the commitment to the Sports is to the Secondary School. Students are \"expected\" to honour their commitment for the 6 year program.

Reason I am posting is because I have read through KSP and seems like general interpretation is that you cannot transfer out if you are a DSA student. And that DSA students are not able to move out.

But I have also heard of a Boy from ACSI who DSAed into the O Level Program. At Sec 3, he transferred to the IB Program, technically no longer in the O Level Program and no longer bounded to the Sports.

So there are many intepretation but was hoping to hear from actually cases before I apply to the school.

      Appreciate your feedbacks.

        Hi

Do check with MOE and the school you are applying to. It seems like MOE may have certain rules (ot widely publicized, but enforced via schools) about students switching between IP programmes mid-way.

Yes, if there other cases, do check around. I hadn't heard of such cases.

For the boy who went from ACS(I) O to IP at Sec 3, did he drop the sport in Sec 3 or later on (like JC1)?

My interpretation would be similar to what I think others are saying. DSA-Sec kids into IP must stick with that school/affiliated JC for all 6 years. I think the ACS(I) case is different in that any O level student (DSA or S1) is eligible to try for IB in Year 3. The nuance for the DSA kid is that he is still in the \"same school.\" I would be surprised if he was allowed to drop the sport in Year 3 but I don't know.

I guess it comes down to exactly what the MOE/school rules are and how this is enforced. Good luck!

This happened to my DS’s batch a few years back.

The boy DSA’ed to RI. Cannot cope in IP then joined O level class in RI. Then he moved to another JC after O level.

It maybe an exception but it happened. But this was a few years ago. Now the boy is doing NS.

This is very common. DSA to IP sch for 6y but dropped into O level program with no through train to the IPJC. During sec4, can dsa into another ipjc or dsa back to the same ipjc provided the coach accepts them.

For example, if my DD1 DSAed into SCGS IP via ballet, and the DSA commitment is 4yrs, it only means she is allowed to choose other CCAs at yr5 and yr6. So when DD1 proceed to go EJC, she is free to choose any other CCAs and not committed to do ballot anymore.

It does not mean she can transfer to say, RI or HCI to do A levels. Else I would ask my DD1 to go RI or HCI and and other parents may also want to do that isn’t it?

I remembered seeing my DD1’s DSA CO letter, stated clearly that she is to stick to EJC as part of the program.

For ACS O boy who managed to promote to ACI to do IB, I think it’s fair as it is still within ACS itself and if the boy is outstanding, he deserves to be further developed. I have heard a similar case. The kid received DSA CO (for O level program) at an IP school but the kid had excellent PSLE results so the school granted the kid to start from IP yr 1.

Other exceptions may be granted for DSAed students to transfer if student can’t cope and has decided to go Poly. I would think such exceptional exit cases is fair too.

I am pretty sure there isn't absolute freedom of movement between IP programmes for IP kids - otherwise it could be pretty chaotic 🙂 MOE doesn't state this explicitly, but do check with them, as they do give instructions to schools as to what/whom they can accept as transfers.

All O level students are free to choose any JC after the O levels.

Yes, it seems like there is a big difference between A) i) internal movement because doing well (O to IP) or ii) internal/external movement because unfortunately not doing as well as hoped and need to explore a different path (O or Poly) vs. B) I want to try something else now. I can’t imagine they (MOE) are keen to increase the cases of B), but I have no firsthand knowledge of exactly what they will allow (subject to schools’ approval) or flat out won’t allow.

There was some prior discussion about this starting on page 37. This Parliamentary Reply is much clearer.
