Can Enrichment Classes replace Kindergarten?

Hi Mum'05, there is no need to respond to every post. Like mine, it wasn't really related to your question but sort of just chit chat as KSP is like Facebook to me. :oops:
ya, i dont think i need to. 'cos like i've said, what i wanted to say are alr said. anyway, i dun mean responding literally to everyone. guess somehow words r being interpreted in many ways,
I can totally see that not all are targeted or in response to what I posted 'cos some are not even related to my original topic. so no worry on this area ya.

Yup - I'm NOT talking about THAT Math topic! haha!
You mean how to differentiate average and very bright kids ?tamarind:
wah, how to differentiate?
If the child can count beyond 20, then .... how to teach algebra?
Not that kind of children. A very smart child can add and subtract any number without the need to be taught
Mommy knows best.
The very first line used to teach algebra is \"Any letter can be used to represent any number\". Say this to a child. If she understands immediately, then she is ready to learn algebra. -

You have opened up an interesting topic, so other parents are keen to discuss their views which may be going off track at times. But it is still an interesting thread for discussion

My kids never attended full day CC, they are more than capable of feeding themselves, dressing themselves, brushing their own teeth, bathing themselves, etc by 6 years old. In fact, my girl can finish a bowl of rice all by herself since 20 months old

tamarind, my kid has attended preschooling from Pre-N til K1 now, all these skills are either self-taught or taught by me at home. In fact, the 2 mths at CC and all those time in Pre-schools, the kid's doing stuff on own too, :). The school hasn't taught them how to brush their teeth also what. Showering at CC although done by teacher, they don't teach them how to shower themselves(I've recently started teaching at home). The only thing they did was left them to dry their body with towel and put on clothes on their own(which my kid already knew how to, :)) whilst they start working on the next kid. -

I always thought that it is Mommy's responsibilities to teach these skills, not CC teachers

This is absolutely true.
So in all, I do agree with tamarind in that from young age my main (and probably only) focus will be on languages and ensuring my kids are comfy in that. 1+1 will always stay the same, but the trick is knowing what operations are required for that specific question and therefore language skill is still key. -

I wasn't off topic.... right?pummanuel:

Algebra is introduced since P1, although very very subtlely
orange = 3
apple + orange = 5
apple = ? -

Yes I saw these questions in P1 maths assessment books, but I think they are not supposed to be in the P1 syllabus ? Probably some of the tops schools use these questions to filter out the \"cream of the crop\".tamarind:

Nope Tam.. my girls also have it in theirs.
They're in neighbourhood schools.
It is still good grasp of number bonds to
quickly be able to understand the concept
of such algebraic styled questions at P1.
