greenbean, you deserve a medal for your contribution to Newton kindy thread ...cheers ! :celebrate:

        Agree!

I see much wisdom in greenbean2011 and her replies. Also a very hardworking mum who is able to evaluate all these kindies so well!

Without greenbean2011 'kicking my ass' to register my son at MMK quickly last year, I might jolly well have missed it and I shudder to think about the consequences. I was only but days away from missing out on the last few vacancies at MMK!

        So thanks greenbean2011, kee...hee...hee!
        :ugogirl:

I totally agree!! Have been a silent reader but couldn't stop myself to butt in! Hee..

Greenbean you are really a walking Newton kindy bible! I am really tempted but I stay in cck, another one comin in May. But my parents plc is at Toa Payoh, am thinking whether it is viable but current set up, mil help to take care of my son...

            hi,

for parents keen to hear parents orientation talk conducted at Newton, you & your spouse can always come down and listen, nearer the time closer to year end.

whether you intend to enrol your child for next yr 2012, or beyond 2012, can just come down and listen.
if you can’t decide whether want to enrol or not, full of doubts / list of qns in your mind, yet curious to find out more about Newton, all the more you should come down, take a look … see see, hear hear … what’s going on.

Parents orientation talk is usually conducted sometime around November each year. Last year it was conducted on 13 Nov 2010, Saturday morning, 9 am – 12 noon.

on that day, many parents will be going !
concerned mothers and fathers will swarm and surround the Principal (P) - bombarding her with lots of questions ! don’t be surprised to see some fathers even more anxious their the mothers, from the way they ask qns!

P and her supportive team of teaching staff from all levels from Pre-nursery, Nursery, K1, K2 - will be on duty on that busy day, ready to assist parents with whatever queries they pose.

school bus operator, Auntie Ong, will also be there.
you can ask her what time come & fetch yr child, how much school bus fees per month, etc, plus whether she can help you arrange transport for your child - even on those days of enrichment that you want yr child to attend. She is very helpful. She always trys her best to accommodate your transport needs / requests.

Kitchen chef team will also be there.
you can ask for food menu, how much portion served (big / small) ? Now that it’s longer hrs 4 hrs kindy, what “extra” meal do they provide, to prevent kids from hungry stomach ?
external enrichment service providers also will be there !
they will use the premises at Newton to teach your child enrichment courses like - Creative Art, Speech and drama, Science exploration, John Langheir critical thinking, Fast Track kids programme, han yu pin yin, etc.

you can ask them to show you their sample enrichment curriculum – what exactly / how they teach, how they assess your child, and how are you going to obtain feedback from them, about your child ? you may also obtain copies of detailed enrichment write up from admin office staff.

after that, you may walk around, explore the facilities, classrooms.

if you thirsty, can buy drinks from vending machine available on ground floor, or sit around at those round tables, to rest your tired leg.

classrooms located on ground floor belong to pre-nursery, plus a few K2 classes.

classrooms located on level two belong to Nursery, K1 plus K2.

classrooms labelled 203 to 206 on level two – are meant for enrichment purposes.

then there is a big Assembly hall on level two, where kids go for assembly every day.

because each classroom door is labelled indicating is it Pre-N, N, K1 or K2, you may visit respective level classroom yr child going to, go in, talk to form teacher, ask more qns.

for parents with kids enrolling yr child for next yr 2012, can buy uniform from admin office. $18 per uniform set. Pink polkadot dot design! got various sizes – best to bring yr child down, don’t end up buy wrong size for him.

if yr child is coming in > 2012, no worry – can also come down and listen. On that day where everyone is so busy answering to queries, P will be more concerned with - how is she going to handle so many parents’ queries ? P won’t ask whether - is your child coming in 2012, or > 2012.

which day is parent’s orientation day, conducted this year ?

now is Term 1, it is not out yet.
nearer the time towards Term 4, then will know.

Term 4 for this year duration is from 12 Sep to 18 Nov 2011. So, pls call up admin office to find out, BEFORE the last day, 18 Nov.

once school vacation starts after 18 Nov, P and admin staff go overseas for holiday – nobody picks up phone call in admin office.

                Hi lil jade,

My boy didn't want to go sch and he was previously from MMK, so I dun think I highly recommended MMK.haha.

But of coz if ur child enjoy going to sch, then that's good. I regretted never listen to him. Because now, he prefers not to go school also and he is in primary school now. 😞
??!! Gosh... I heard really +ve comments about MMK.. Hmm...

My DD is.... oblivious to school. I gather her kindy is just NORMAL... not the sort to inspire kids, ill or not, rain or shine, to clamour for school!

                  greenbean2011:
actually, there are also a number of parents in Newton kindy who are not Christians. They come from different walks of faith. They may be Buddhists, Taoists, free thinkers, etc. Just that they happen to like Newton kindy environment, so they enrol their kids here...

                  I wholeheartedly concur with greenbean2011!

A person's moral / ethics derives from our experiences, for most of us, it'll be religion. Others, could be philosophy or other teachings like Confucius. Regardless, all would preach fundamental universal moral principles, and does it matter which source it is from?

For me, I'm a free thinker (meaning I don't have a specific religion, which also means I believe and respect all religions (ummm... including Mormon??... 😉 ). But sending my DD to a church kindy is fine with me. If there was a kindy that is buddhist, it's fine too.

In fact, when my DD goes to P1, I'll try my best to send her to schools that have moral groundings, like religious-based or Chinese schools which emphasise on character building. Her character will be moulded positively and her ethical bearings will have a sound compass to direct her! It is too much to expect our young ones to be able to make ethically sound decisions, and having such a compass will assist them!

                  Hahaha, sorry, too long-winded! 😉
