              Hi,

Is there anyone’s situation like mine? my DS has been attending CMA all these while and he’s in Grade 7 for abacus and Grade 6 for mental currently. Actually he has completed the books for Grade 7 abacus but becos his multiplication is still not up to the level the teacher requests, he has to repeat his Grade 7 book.

Really feel like giving up cos he has also just started his MPM in Oct and now quite stucked with the multiplication part. But his CMA teacher says it’s will be a pity since he’s considered quite ok at his age and advises us to continue. But he can’t seem to remember by heart the multiplication tables. Sometimes really want to vomit blood cos he always do his multiplication using counting, which sometimes can be quite fast but can see that he is counting instead of remembering.

                Hi Seaangel,

How old is your DS? I have not encounter like what your DS did. My DD is in Grade 9 for abacus & 8 for mental, and she is still learning multiplication. I was hoping to switch her to MPM after that.

Which CMA branch did you send your DS?

                  Hi,
If your kids are \"too young\" and not ready, go slow on multiplication. If you see him counting, let him count. In fact, let him add. He will get it after some time. My gal initially use counting, and then one day, she just \"see light\" and can give me the answer. The impt thing is not to force and made kids memorise and scared of learning multiplication table. After he count many times, he will \"see\" the answer.

Also, do 1 timetable at a time. Do not mix up. Once he has master 1, then move on to add another, and keep revising the 1st one too. Once he has master 2, revise the 2 and add the 3rd one. Do the easy ones (2, 5, 9) and mix it with the difficult ones (3, 4, 6, 8).

                  Hope this helps.

                    Hi i3mum,

My DS is turning 6 soon. He's at the Bishan branch. I think properly he is lack of supervision. Lately we tried to test him everyday, if not on alternate days when we back from work. (he is supposed to revise by himself during daytime). Can see that he's much better these few days. Hope this lasts! hehe. I'm trying to find those catchy songs but can't find any in popular bkstore.

He just started MPM 2 mths back and can see he really likes MPM. Everytime he comes back fr lessons, he will finish his hmwork the following day without me reminding him. But I find MPM kinda expensive haha.

                      Hi Pen88n,

Thx for yr advice. Yes we taught him to count initially when he couldnt remember during the initial stage. But i realised when he counts he doesnt remember by heart. Sometimes the question is repeated a few times on the same page but he still used counting which really pissed me.

Shall observe further then. Lately he's much better. We also feel that probably he is too young for multiplication but we have to go through this obstacle if we want him to continue with CMA. otherwise he will be stucked at Grade 7. We hope that he can complete as much as possible before he starts P1 in 2012.

Which level did your girl stop at?

                        Hi seaangel,

I agree with you. As for the listening CD, it is getting more difficult. My DD enjoys doing more on those math assessment books, more than CMA. Haha I m thinking to stop her after she completes her Division.
