I think China hotels are not as trustworthy as US hotels.
dangdang is different from amazon. For example, if the books are not available in Beijing, then they cannot ship overseas. But the books may be available in other provinces. This is what I dislike most.

Actually, the hotel is a Singapore brand name (one of the bigger service apartment operators) - that's why I thought ok. 😢 And my fren was in a big party with her. Anyway, this time when I ordered, there wasn't so much obstacles. I should have guessed it won't go so smoothly.

Find that dangdang has many weird practices - like the audit bit that can take a super long time. What to do? They offer the best selection and prices.

The courier people probably don't trust the hotel staff to keep the items safely, regardless of the brand name 😉

So far I cannot find another online bookstore that has the same selection and low prices. Amazon.cn also has a huge selection, but their shipping charges to Singapore are so expensive.

What I really dislike is their refund rules. Can only refund within 7 days, and exchange within 15 days. by the time it reaches singapore, it's way past these timings. They once sent me a used sticker book - horrible! and no way of seeking redress.
Actually you can ask them to refund the cost of the book. Once I complained that a book has a few missing pages. They refunded me immediately. But then later I found out that my boy tore out the pages and hid them, so embarrassing

Oh..... that explains why even though there is stock, at the finalization of the total cost, sometimes some titles would be reflected as no stock

Probably, or perhaps it's just not done. I should have been more careful. Anyway, also good thing in that I found more books that I bought and were left untouched - going to start one with DS2 tonight. hee hee

Perhaps I dunno how to surf, but most times I found the selection paltry in comparison. Although I ever did order haomama from amazon and the difference in processing speed and procedures were amazing! I didn't have to jump through so many hoops. Warts and all, I still  dangdang.

              Hi,

Anyone knows what is the average waiting time for delivery to Singapore? I ordered from dangdang and books were shipped out in early Dec, but i have not received yet. This is my first order and I had ordered quite a lot of books. Quite worried.

From the sharing by the parents here, it takes about 7 - 8wks. I'm expecting my first order to arrive around 25 Jan, as I ordered sometime mid Nov 2010

Confirm. Mine takes about 8 weeks from placing order to date. Do check your order status. If it's shipped out, should be ok. btw, their packing material is very crap, all the cartons had to be re-wrapped by the postal people. Sigh..

I agree about the box used for packing. I advise parents to order small number of books each time. So long as you order RMB100 and above, no difference in shipping cost. If there are very few books in the box, it will arrive in better condition.

Need advice from fellow parents here.

DS is 5.5 yr old now and we speak mainly English at home and naturally he speaks very little or no Chinese at home (though hubby and I speak Mandarin at home). I am inspired by all of you here on how the Dangdang books can improve the Chinese language and entice the children to read Chinese.

DS attends chinese enrichment class on a weekly basis. Which series shall I introduce DS for a start? They are so many to choose from and I am a bit confused what to get.

It may be a bit late to start now but still better than not doing anything, i hope…

                        Hi Mimama,
I have a list of good books in my blog :
                        http://tamarindvillage.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-to-raise-bilingual-child.html

The books are ordered in terms of difficulty. Just start from the top of the list. Note that many of these books are available in the library.
