Order from Dangdang
-
Thanks Tamarind for peeka. Will have a look.
The Bank of China Greatwall card with union pay currently has a 2 year fee waiver. Some telemarketer called me up. I was interested to know more only because it can be used in China. But looking at the complicated Dangdang payment instructions for online payment and having no PRC phone no. to set up the unionpay account, I doubt it can be easily used for online purchase. -
hi empressplace,
Although ordering from DD can be tedious, mind-boggling, nail-biting, each time I get the books, it’s like Christmas - so I keep going back for more.
The prices of these books are incredible (incredibly low that is) and many of the good titles are translated from foreign languages, and no longer available in English form. -

How to order from dangdang using peeka? It seems to offer taobao only? -
empressplace:
Just paste the dangdang link. The auto fetch only works for taobao but you can enter the other fields manually.Tamarind

dangdang is a reliable bookseller, it is just that their courier service is very bad and they refused to acknowledge it.Thanks Tamarind for the lead. Will check them out next time.
Yes, the last 2 times DD also gave me non-existent tracking numbers...at least they were non existent until somehow the parcels appeared on my doorstep. After this, I learn to just have faith and keep waiting. I don't go to China much and hate (now) to ask pp to lug back for me. -
will go try out the peeka.
Yes, the most trying thing about DD is that their customer service are very polite, and they will politely give you the company line…can tear my hair out trying to talk to them.

You are right. I \"scolded\" them very badly in emails before, they always reply back very politely. That's why I gave up.will go try out the peeka.

WOW! even cheaper than 65daigou leh. That means I can continue to buy from DD.I ordered a box of 34 books, over 12 kg, shipping is only $21+ using the cheapest economy shipping. They don't use the actual weight, they use the size of your parcel to calculate the shipping. The books arrived within 4 weeks. Peeka accepts bank transfer, no credit card needed. They accept orders from taobao or dangdang.
Tamarind, thanks for the recommendation. :hugs: I will switch over to Peeka service.
DD courier sucks! I am so pissed off. I have 2 parcels having issue. One of them MIA and I need another 2 more weeks in order to get my refunds. Another worse......parcel arrived is not mine at all and I need to returned back to DD at my cost! I had enough of DD courier. -
laughingcat:
peeka's economy shipping charges by volume, not weight, so it is suitable for buying books which tend to be heavy.

Their 3 and 7 day shipping charges by weight and is very expensive.
Note that I used them only twice, not sure whether they will always be reliable.
dangdang is really bad at handling overseas orders  -
hquek:
and why is nobody talking about this problem?hi empressplace,
Select pay via online means, then choose pay with overseas credit card. The system will lead you to an external webpage for you to key in details. I've been using Amex (DBS for that matter) without issue for the past couple of years. The system will later return ok, and then refresh to DD page that says there is an error.
i've been using dangdang alot longer than most of you here (2007)
you have no idea how bad they were back then, the CS were punks nothing but trouble, you have no idea how i ahd to deal with them back then all by myself
dangdang has screwed up their systems in 2009 after hundreds of upgrades and this problem of invoices stuck in [awaiting payment] and [error payment rejected] has been here for 2 years.
overseas credit-card users are left with an invoice forever stuck and mistakenly paying multiple times for an item that will never ever get shipped to them unless you kept hagging customer service which will outright cancel your orders or will only refund your paid duplicate invoices.
and admist all of this, with threads popping occasionally asking about the error with unhelpful ppl posting things like \"its your credit card blocking you from using it in a different country\"
wow, just wow.
i wonder why credit cards are made, do you?
when are ppl going to start discussing about this issue?
i've had no problems before since i always go to the customer service and they would fix the issue for me in a jiffy.
however recently they're up to their old dirty tricks from 2007 again; cancelling your orders
after paying for invoice 201105 i went to CS as usual and told them to confirm my payment, they immediatly cancel my order which surprised me, they haven't done this since my first 2 orders from back in 2007 where afterwards they banned my previous account for \"inactivity\" which is just a clever way to wipe the evidence, i warned them that i'm a living in hong kong and will report them to the chinese authorities that they finally give in and in spite of the missing parcels here and now they mostly sent everything i ordered to where i want them to go.
i see that you folks are still very new to dandang but obviously some ppl aren't reporting back when they should, anyhow i feel slightly obliged to warn you that dangdang have scammed alot of ppl back in the day, and they're trending dangerously to that level again; just so you know.
don't complain too much about parcels.
did you know that the courier they used back then steal almost everything they ship?
did you know how international orders gets stolen before they even get to the post office?
did you know that they used to fail miserabley at even shipping to macau and hong kong? (parcel loss rate 90 %)
did you know that back then they don't give refunds? and would actually edit your invoice's shipping costs to match the monkey they owe you so that it looked like YOU didn't pay them enough before banning you for inactivity?
eg: invoice jun12th 30RMB shipping ---> 600RMB
i can go on and on.
now, i've long suspected that this problem has something to do with the browser one uses to make the payment.
for those of you who rememebr, in 2008 dangdang made an anouncement warning us that we should use IE instead of firefox after another series of upgrades, though the announcment disappeared, i want to tell you that i have used IE to try and make a payment but its no different than firefox, and now i want everyone who has succeeded in paying with credit cards in recent months to tell me when said payment was made, and the browser they're using.
you don't have to do it, but i've told you some very useful info and i think you owe it to me, to yourself to atleast share this info so we can work together for our mutual benefit.
least don't forget that i can read manderin, even though i'm canadian.
so for your sake, i hope ppl will start talking about this issue, because an old-timer like me is not planning on staying here for long.
just so you know.
