2011 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

actually, you dont really have to do such extreme revision if u have revised well for your past year exams!
I mean, math is really just a practice and there is not much to study and the concepts and quite... simple.
English is another practice, even synthesis.
Mother tounge should be easy if u just remember the neccesary words which come back to you easily since u already learned them ( assuming your a hardworking student who prepared for all her exams with a kiasu parent) and just practice the papers and keep increasing your vocab.
science is quite easy, dont spend too much time on the concepts and focus on the keywords. Memorise them all and look at the question and try and see what concept the question is asking for and use the necessary keywords and synthesize them into a nice sentence.
The end! Not much to it but requires hard work, confidence and sheer determination.
Good luck for psle! -

Hi mrswongtuition,
You need to TIME THEM. Then they will start to speed up.
How do we \"time\" them ? Meaning, is there a standard like for CL paper, each qn in Section A should take only X mins, etc... ? Do you have the timings ? Can share ?
DS1 is taking his PSLE nx yr. And I am very nervous. Initially, I thought take a rest after SA2 and start chiong-ing when school starts in Jan 2011. But after reading the posts in this thread... I got cold sweat.....
Also, I find it very difficult to plan the timing. I tried to do it for P5, but failed terribly. Things always didn't go according to my plan. :x
Also, for your P6 students, what are the books that you will be using ?

My DD is taking PSLE in 2011, her weakest subject is Chinese. I am thinking of sending her to oral/compo intensive course this holiday. Any recommendation?

Emelyn:
you know the marks for each question, so you can work out the time allocated for each mark. go / train according to that

when doing a complete paper, plan for uninterrupted time, eg don't do it just before dinner to be disrupted by dinner etc. in other words, do it like exam condition even at home -

On average, 1 mark = 1 minute.

Some kids don't have a sense of urgency if they are not timed or given a deadline. Therefore, you will see them taking their own sweet time and can't seem to finish their work on time. Or don't have enough time to finish up revision.
They do need a break. Probably for 1-2 weeks after SA2. After that, get their momentum going with short breaks during December (Christmas, New Year's Eve/Day).
If you plan to fail, you will fail.
If you plan to succeed, you will succeed.
When planning, always have a 'wet weather program' as we call it in school. A back up plan.
In case your child comes home late, what will the timetable be like?
Of cos, school homework first, then revision and additional assessments.
When things don't go according to plan, ADJUST YOUR PLAN.
You will be amazed at how much can be completed with simple planning and some adjustments to your plans along the way.
Don't show any signs of frustration when things don't go as planned.
Kids pick up the vibes real fast. Just stay calm and rework the plan.
It's definitely possible if you and your child are determined.

Wow. Even I got mentioned (in a bad way) in the article for posting comments on how parents can get organised and push their kids to study.
This is seriously terrible. Spend time to share = \"plugging my services\".
Means tutors/teachers should stop sharing in forum as it's seen as \"advertising\"?
& when I posted my sharing, my P5/6 classes were already full (hashroop knows ;)).
This is so demoralising. -

Those of us who frequent the forum all know you're here to share and not to plug your services. And we do appreciate your insights.
