Which schools? I haven't quite heard. Actually the minimum requirement for MEP is quite low. Only grade 3 theory and grade 4 practical. Some MEP schools will have selection trials, but not all.

My p6 boy is not very sure about doing MEP bc I think the theoretical aspect probably doesn't sound too exciting to him. But my elder boy does well in it and this very elective keeps his GPA high each term.

      Hi phankao,
I don't know much about MEP but One of my friend's DD DSA into MGS last year. She mentioned to me that her DD had Grade 5 piano and Grade 3 for violin.

Wow...your DSs are all musically inclined. Does it run in the family...keke?

I guess the admission criteria in MGS is not very strict then. Too bad there's no equivalent boys' school in this domain. However, if applying for RI/RGS, the applicants have to be competition prizewinners to have any chance for offer - otherwise, they will still let you go thru' the trials but it would really be a waste of the child's time.

My ds1 & ds2 are quite musical and quite advanced. Can't say it runs in family? Their dad quite tone-deaf, altho' I think it's a matter of exposure. His hearing has miraculously improved over the years of hearing the boys.
Not sure about how strict MGS's criteria for MEP selection via DSA is? My friend's DD scored distinctions for both instruments and is academically inclined. Wonder if that worked towards her advantage???

Wow...sounds like it's real tough to get selected for MEP for RI/RGS via DSA. Guess it's really meant for the really talented in music.

        Pen88n:
        Thanks for all your encouragement.

Unfortunately DS doesn't qualify under the \"distinction\" category  . I also understand from a fren this afternoon that for RI, it would require more than Grd 7 Practical Grd 5 Theory - those that applies under such category are usually way beyond this and have lots of competition and performance exposure. At best, this can only be listed in DS portfolio to make it look a little bit better
        Hi pen88n,
Grade 7 for piano is still quite an achievement so will look good in your DS's portfolio. :celebrate: If your DS is interested in DSA, can always try other domains.

It's very difficult to get into RGS via MEP. Friend's dd who is very talented in music, has diplomas, performances under her belt etc didn't get in. It probably has to do with the strict GAT test as well.

But it's easy to get into MEP if you are already in the school(eg. using your psle score alone). It's only difficult to get in using it for DSA.

Once you're in RGS, MEP is just an additional subject you have to apply for, like 3rd lang, SAP etc, provided you meet the requirements.

But if the child has only grade 7 or 8, but is National Prizewinner, sure to get offer. ;D That's what I've observed of those offered.

So the buffet spread will get more variety and pile higher when nearer the PSLE big day? šŸ˜‰

Would love to start this buffet spread but hubby would most probably be very shocked and cross not to be able to see his dining table top and we have to eat our meals on the floor :!:
pen88n, that is a good one. You made my morning all bright and full of LOL.
