Hi kiasugrandmaster, which areas are you familiar with to recommend good CCC in both curriculum and environment (teachers/food etc)?

Hi,
I have been looking for a pre school for my gal since beginning of this year and have visited a number of preschool to look at their environment and curriculum, and some of the observations have keep me wondering about the standard of local preschool:
1) some teachers are not able to conduct meaningful group activities and give simple instructions
2) witnessing groups and groups of preschool children out on the void deck wandering around and doing nothing. There is one day within 2 hours all 3 preschools near my area let the kids out to wander around while the teachers stand there and talk. I also witness 2 teachers bringing a group of about 10-12 kids cross roads to go to the nearby NTUC…
3) like what kiasumaster mentioned in the first page of the thread, most of the preschool, the curriculum are almost non existence. Even English teachers are not able to communicate in fluent English, let alone PRC teachers.
4) Chinese teachers from PRC might not be teaching standard Chinese as most of them are not trained in Pre-school education and some of the terms they used are different from those we used in SG.
5) No guidance for "Free Play time" and its 100% playing on your own rather than learn through play.
6) My fren’s son and his classmates pronouce his name wrongly cos the teachers pronouce it wrongly, and its a very simple chinese word.
All in all, I feel that it is important to send kids to preschool to learn all the social skills but parents will still have to play a major role in preschool education. I am a full time working mum, so I understand the agony of "No time", but looking at the scenarios, if we don’t squeeze out some time for the young ones, and leave them to the teachers mentioned above, can’t imagine what will happen to us and the kids in near future. -

Preschool may mean Kindergarten (2-3hrs type) or Childcare (half/whole day). As you are a FTWP, i believe you refer to the latter. With regards to Preschool education, I have a bias view that cheap and good (curriculum) ones are virtually non-existing. In addition, you may get one with good curriculum but teachers who do not go the extra mile or one with poor curriculum and with teachers that inspire and care.Hi,

Look for 'referrals' around the forum to see if you can find the closest to the ideal one that you have in mind.
Good luck. -

Yes I agree. We need to constantly make time for our children. And seriously, it's very hard to find good teachers who are able to teach well and also have a strong passion for children. Sigh. I think maybe sometimes the teachers also cannot tahan their work, because I have to say that it's not easy to work with a whole class of students.... especially when they are very young and anything can just happen.
