Dear all, I do agree that the Franchaise programme have a set curriculum. It gives the teacher a guide. Every child is different, their progress and their learning style too. Sometimes this is too rigid such that the teachers just used it anyway even if the class is not benefitting from it. What if the class is a lot more advance than the work that is prepare for their age. Are you going to bore them and follow or do you have creative teachers to come up with lessons to stimulate the children

Yes. Most of the Pri schools are having spelling tests in both english and Chinese (in HYPY) around 2nd wk of the first mth. Especially HYPY, if the child doesnt understand the basic concept in preschool, then he or she might encounter problem in P1. I think Pri school will expect the child to understand the basic HYPY and hence will not go into the details.

Presch emphasize on phonics which enable pri sch children to spell words based on phonetic pronunciation. For hypy, it is not difficult to pick up in P1 except the 标点符号. If the child speaks Mandarin, not difficult to pick up at P1 term 1

Yes, do agree that phonics helps in the spelling part for the kids 😄

Absolutely hands-up for this part! :rahrah: :rahrah:
My P1 DD2 is very weak with HYPY and every week learning HYPY 听写 is a nightmare for both of us! 😢 😢

My son problem is 笔画rather than hypy. He's left-handed so I find it difficult to teach him. He may get fullmarks for 听写but wrong strokes & anyhow \"draw\" acc to shape of word 🤷

Anyone who can advise the differences in curriculum offered in PCF (Preschool) versus private centres like Agape, MMI? Thanks

Oh dear! Spelling tests on 2nd week of pri 1? The presch that i’m going to enrol DD1 in has no spelling tests and don’t teach HYPY. They told me their graduates has no problem coping with Pri 1.

Ya, i'm quite surprised. However, the words in the spelling list are quite simple. With adequate practice should hv full mark in English. Mostly, 10 each for English and Chinese (now in HYPY) respectively on weekly basis.
