My gal is with Soka Kindy (PM session since we live in AMK) and though this is the 3rd day of orientation week, my gal is already asking to go to school. This is my gal’s 5th pre school and we believe we have finally found one that upholds the true value of pre school education. She takes the hour long journey to school by school bus but we know that this kindy is the one for her.

FYI. My gal is a special needs child with poor motor skills due to medical issues at birth. She also has visual issues (lazy eyes n short sighted) and late last year, she has been diagnosed with hyper sensitive hearing. She has undergone an Auditory Integration Therapy and that helps alot cos now she can take many noises e.g vaccum, motorcycle, etc. We have also teach her coping skills in case she cannot bear the noise.

We are really glad to have found Soka cos we brought up all our gal’s issues to the principal and teachers’ in various unofficial meet ups. And they have constantly assured us that my gal will be well taken care esp walking down the staircase and at the playground. Her 2 class teachers have even arranged a meet up to specifically understand my gal’s needs and our goals for her in Soka.

I really and truly appreciate their efforts to understand my gal’s needs and that put our mind at peace. The induction day last Saturday 08 Jan was really good as the principal, Mrs Aw prepares an hour long presentation for help parents understand what our child(ren) will be doing for the whole year in K1 or K2. I must say the curriculum is practical and interesting. They encourage children to explore, be creative and ask the 5 W’s and how, etc. This is something which is somehow lost in our cat race society that children learn well through play and exploration.

        Hi all kiasuparents,

I'm interested to send my DS to Soka too...but we will move to Seng Kang next year so the travelling time is an issue.
any parents who stay in seng kang and send their kids to Soka?
        How about their sch fee/term?
        Thanks! 😄
        Hi Mickeybear,

Im residing in Sengkang , intend to register her this coming march during the open house for her K1 class next year 2012.
The school bus fare is a bit steep. $234 per month.
It will definitely increase my expenses but wanna give it a try cos I find my gal needs to be trained for her character.

I was invited to attend the induction day. She touched on 2 topics that I found very interesting.

In Term 2, there will be family home visits for Nursery & K1. A child will always see their parents' family & friends come to their house. But in this family home visit, it will be the first time that the child is hosting his/her teacher, someone personal to them. So it will be a good chance for the parent to teach them the value about being a good host. Very interesting indeed

There was once a child who is allegeric to peanut who will have acute reaction. So for 3 years, the food menu does not contain anything with peanuts and the school also reminded their teachers/gym teachers/bus driver to be mindful not to have any peanut stains on them. They really treat each child as an individual being.

Hi all! I happened to chance upon this forum when I was searching about Soka related stuff.

I'm still a student, not yet a mother, but I'll be more than happy to register on this site to share with you my experience - I studied in Soka Kindergarten when I was a child!

I'm 19 now, I studied in SK in 1996, which is more than 10 years ago! I believe the curriculum has changed since those days, but the changes are definitely positive!

Looking back, I can gladly say that SK's curriculum focuses on both educational and character development, developing its students as lion cubs - fostering good spirit, righteousness, integrity.

This is something that many kindergartens do not emphasise on, and they simply go about to teach the children the ABCs and 123s.

Also, this year, Mdm Yang Pei Luan from Soka Kindergarten received the Distinction Award in The Outstanding Kindergarten Teacher Award honours teachers who have contributed significantly to teaching and learning in their kindergartens.

I sound so pro-SK! 😛 But I'm really happy that I got to go to SK to study because those were one of the best memories in my life. The teachers are patient and loving. I also vividly remember for my graduation, we sang and performed a puppet show about 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'.

Up till now, I am still good friends with some of my fellow classmates!
