            Hi SavvyQueen, welcome!

            The better known brands of bread machines are from http://gb.severin.com/products/cooking/breadmaker/bm-3990 and http://www.kenwoodworld.com/sg/Products/Cooking-Baking/Bread-Makers/. I believe their machines tend to be bigger, so they are good if you have a big family, or if your family likes eating bread...remembering that your homemade, no-preservative bread is best eaten within a day or two.

            But what got everyone into a frenzy, and turning this into a 540+ pages thread is the http://www.zojirushi.com/products/bbhac, or affectionately known as the Z machine. It's a hit among forum members here because of its small foot print, and cuteness. :love:

            As for myself, I was afraid that the bread machine will become a white elephant, so I was not about to spend $300 on the Z machine. :moneyflies:

            Instead, when I was on holiday in China in June, I paid about $50 for http://wbdq.midea.com.cn/product/receive.aspx?TID=14&PID=214 and it's absolutely money well spent since it had worked wonderfully well so far. My only gripe is that it doesn't have a viewing window on top for me to peak at the progress.

            As for the ease of use, I guess all the machines are fool proof that even this fool can do it. All you need to do is to follow instructions. πŸ˜‰

              The recipe says 3 cups of bread flour. Can your Z machine take in that much flour?

              Think I read in this thread before that we should use banana with black spots?

                      OMG! $50! Thats a definate steal!

                      Ya.. have been browsing ard the dept stores and I must say the Z machine looks really sexy.. haha.. but the price tag... πŸ˜“

                      am just wondering if the price tag is justifiable (like more functions? easier to use? more durable?) or mainly for the design.. also worried that after paying high price, become white elephant when my enthusiasm fizzles..

                      hmmm .. am glad to hear that breadmakers are fool proof.. ha...

                        My machine's recipe calls for 2 cups of bread flour, which I figure should be about 250g. But the Hokkaido loaf calls for a total of 600g (bread flour 540g, cake flour 60g) of flour! So I worked out the ratio and came up with this:


                        Fresh Milk \t\t104g
                        Whipping Cream \t63g
                        Milk Powder \t\t13g
                        Egg \t\t\t1 pc
                        Salt \t\t\t4g
                        Sugar \t\t\t33g
                        Bread flour \t\t225g
                        Cake Flour \t\t25g
                        Yeast \t\t\t4g

                        With this, the dough still rise up to touch the cover, so eventually I used only 3g+ of yeast and didn't have that problem anymore.
