Hi pixiedust,
Will like to check if the book is worth getting? I am using z-machine and will like to try out other recipes. Still pondering if I should join a bread baking class or get a good recipe book. -
Only if you are very keen on low fat, low salt, 100% wholewheat bread.
Some of my friends find the breads a bit too ‘tasteless’ while others, especially those with elders with health issues, love the breads.
There are many good bread books in the library, have a look there first.
Using the bread machine - excuse me for saying - is like no-thinking way to make bread, just dump in the ingredients and press the buttons. I think bread baking class they will teach about dough, shaping loaves etc so you may end up using your machine only to knead dough. -
pixie, thanks for the recipe. Where can I get wheat gluten and lecithin? I also use the Breville machine and enjoy making bread of it very much.

I have bought wheat gluten from Phoon Huat before. Not too sure about Lecithin though. -
Same as maid, I bought wheat gluten from Phoon Huat. They are kept in refrigerators.
Lecithin, I buy the organic brand ‘origins’ - available in major NTUCs.
michyms, glad to "meet" a fellow Breville user. -
pixie,nice meeting you too. :celebrate:
Thanks for the tip, I also use the Origins brand of organic wholemeal flour for my cakes and bread. It's the most economical organic wholemeal flour around and it's so fine that it's great for even some cakes and muffins. Makes it healthier for all my kids
maid, thanks for the advice. -
Dear all,
I am a newser in this thread, hope to find some help from you all expert breadmaker here!
I have bought a Severin BM3989 breadmaker machine in July;
I follow the recipe given but so far never success at all based on 5 times that I baked. My hubby & parent in law said the bread tasted like ‘fatt kuih’ than a bread… Feel so hurt…='(
I don’t have any experience in baking, is there any Severin user can advise me… Pls… Help… -
Yappy I was using a Severin before my Breville. Did you put the ingredients in in the recommended order? And what kind of yeast are you using?
-
Hi, michyms,
Thanks for your reply!
Yes, I did follow the recipe on how much Ingredients to put. As the salesman said just put all in & start the machine! I bought the dry yeast fm ntuc fairprice.
Guess, is not tat easy, right? -
Yappy, think have to follow a certain order - liquids first, followed by flour, followed by salt and yeast last. You can call Severin and ask them why this is happening and ask them to check the machine... Another friend of mine had the same issues with Severin too, in the end she stopped making bread
My Severin was fine, but it died after 1 year... sigh
