Huh?! I Thot Severin machine is good & easy to use…
It can last for a year nia?!
Dun Noe eat Shd I do abt the machine now… Want to stop trying like your friend aldy… =( -
Hi Yappy
If you set the timer for the bread to be ready in the morning, you have to make sure that the yeast does not touch the water at the time you make the preparation. To do this, after adding water, form a small volcano with the flour which rises above the water. At the top of the volcano, then add the yeast. This way, the yeast only touches the water when the breadmaker start to churn the dough at the right time.
Of course if you don’t set the timer and make the bread straight away, there is no need to make sure the yeast don’t touch the water.
Another possible reason I can think of is that you have put in too little sugar. Cutting down sugar below the recommended amount will also cause the bread to not rise as much. -
Thanks for the info, pojo!
I should put in the milk/water in baking pan, start the machine, add flour slowly to stir, then honey, then salt… Add dry yeast at last step! The machine take 3hrs to finish the whole process…
Is this normal? -
Yappy, I recall the order for adding ingredients for Severin is Milk/Water, then Oil/Honey, then flour, then salt and yeast at the last step… Since you spent so much on the machine, don’t give up as yet, call the distributors and see if they can help somehow… This recipe has always worked in my Severin:
1 cup water
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp honey
3 cups bread flour (can mix in 1 cup of fine wholemeal flour to replace 1 cup bread flour)
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
Now I use this recipe for my Breville machine and it works just as well.
I am not sure whether the Severin spoilt prematurely because my maid was carrying it up and down and damaged the motor by rough handling. Anyway, now I do not allow her to touch my Breville and it’s still doing good after more than a year. -

Looks like you are not using the timer and making the bread straight away. Just to check, what is the flour you are using? michyms recipe seems sound. Maybe try with just all breadflour. -
Am using the normal bread flour from ntuc…
-
Try using michyms recipe and see how it turns out.

Tried last nite using michyms’s recepi & put the ingredients as told… Turn out not so dense but still not Soft and fluffy like normal bread leh… Anyone can advise me where went wrong?

Hi Yappy
The recipe I am using is basically the same as michyms’ except that instead of honey, I put in 2 tbsp of white sugar. In addition, I add a small slice of butter and a pinch of cinnamon. This gives the great smell of freshly baked bread in the morning all worth the effort.
I think you can try substituting the 2 tbsp of honey with sugar. Then you can vary the amount of sugar as this has an effect on how much the bread will rise.
I assume you made the bread straight away after putting in all the ingredients instead of setting the timer for >3+ hours.
Don’t be discouraged. Give it another go.
