mommyNg:
My daughter has been with Palais since she was 4 years old. She recently took and passed her Primary exams with merit. No complaints. The school is very established and the teachers are strict but that helps the girls be disciplined in dance. My daughter recently took and passed her Primary exams with merit.Any feedback on the following ballet schools?

HyperKiasu:
My girl started ballet when she was 4+ and taking the exam every year and now she is 12 and currently in grade 6. She has just received a confirmed offer from Singapore Chinese Girls School via DSA ballet dance. Grade 5 RAD is a min. requirement for Sec 1 in take. If you are a “Kiasu mummy” like me…. you have to start to plan and send your girl for exam yearly in order to achieve grade 5 when she is below 12.sweetiepie:
Actually the extra lesson is only when there is exam whether for jazz or ballet. The exam is usually in the school. it is better for you to check with the teacher. Some students in macph actually took 2 grades concurrently last year. My girl had her grade 1 jazz and going for grade 5 ballet this november. What about your girl? Is she performing in the YOG dance? I am waiting for them to start a babe ballet class after this YOG performance. My 3 yrs old enjoyed the trial lesson so much. i have waited quite some times already. now just put her in crestar babe ballet dance while waiting.
wow, YOG dance, your girl must dance very well to be selected. :celebrate:
My girl is 4.5 yrs old and just started pre-ballet this March, so till now 4mths only... she enjoyed it very much...
sori, i am very blur here regarding the dance exam. Is the exam conducted and graded in / by the school of dance itself ?
how long has your girl learned ballet? how long does it take to achieve grade 5? you said your girl is 3 yrs? -
hi laifeeling, is it difficult to get into SCGS thru DSA Ballet? Did your girl tried others school? My girl is so interested in dancing. after the YOG performance, she told me she wanted to be a performance dancer when she grows up. Next week, the dance school is holding audition for dancegroup to perform in competition. She is so keen and exciting to try. I am a bit worry that she may be too much into dancing and neglect the rest. She is also learning guzheng and violin. Do you have this concern as well?

Hi Sweetiepie
My girl used to leaning violin as well but she stop last year when she was in grade 3, she seems to lost her interest so I didn’t force her….another reason also because she is in PSLE this year…..come back to the SCGS DAS Dance, there were about 150 applicants for dance and about 11 of them called for the group interview for 2nd round. During the audition, teacher will perform different types of dance like jazz, ballet and Chinese dance once and all girls will have to try their best to remember the steps and perform to the judges and asked to do some stretching to test her flexibility. Min grade 5 RAD is required. Some of my friends told me that distinction is required from grade 1-5 but my dd scored Grade 1,2,4 in distinction but only 73 for G3 and 70 for G5, I thought she would not have any chance cos she didn’t take up jazz and Chinese dance lesson before, she was lucky. For your info, Interview questions like what is your favorite color and reason why, if you face difficulty and how you overcome it….and more. My dd also tried MGS and received Waitlist offer but she will go for SCGS as this is her preferred school. -
laifeeling, your girl only tried the two school thru dsa. looks like very competitive and chances of getting into it are slim. she is really luncky. i am hoping my daughter can try DSA in guzheng and dance. she will be doing grade 6 guzheng and grade 1 jazz in nov. Any written exam, other than dance and interview during the dsa selection? is she going to continue her ballet dance outside?

Hi Sweetiepie
No written exam is required for DSA dance but P4-P6(CA1&SA1) school result need to be submitted together with the DSA application form. My dd going to be continue her G6 ballet lesson outside cos I don’t think the school will enroll the CCS student for the RAD exam. Maybe your dd can try DSA Guzheng in Nanyang if she have G6 level…..WISH HER GOOD LUCK!! -
hi laifeeling or any parents here who have experienced DSA,
i guess my girl would have violin grade 7, guzheng grade 7, ballet grade 6 and jazz grade 2 by Pri 6, do you know which one will be easier to get into DSA? She only got an average result, will that affect her chances?
