Why cant u just let ur child decide what he/ she likes. Enough stress from academic, for once, at least let them decide what they like. Encourage them and allow them to have some breathing space.

I've always wanted my DS to join Scouts..

But he chose to be in AVA Club instead.

So long he takes his assigned duty/responsibilities with pride, I'm cool.

Hi Parents,


My girl is in P5 & in netball CCA. She was not selected to be in the school team & so goes for her CCA netball every week. She told me that every week they will be doing the basic training like she what did since P3 & was boring. She wanted to quit.

Would like to get precious advices from parents.
1) Should she continue netball CCA as i am afraid it will affect her in Sec Sch since no CCA?
2) Is there any points for pri sch CCA?
3) What will be the impact in enrolling in sec sch?

I wonder why some cca need to conduct selection test in primary school, example badminton?


Even though, i suspect that it may because lack of trainers or space for practice, I think they should not kill the passion or interest of the children. As primary school for me is the START for children finding something that they feel interested in. When they are rejected, the children interest is already killed.

This is because there are kids who cried when they have not chosen. There are some who won't even think of joining something else as they only love badminton. My kid is one of them though he did not cry but look sad and disappointed.

Ask him choose something else, he said \"NO\". Want to sign him for badminton outside school, he said \" I only want to join the school team!\"

For my DDs’ school, the CCA programmes are categorised into 4 main groups:-


1) Aesthetics

2) Sports & Games

3) Clubs & Societies

4) Uniform Group

Co-curricular activities (CCA) form an integral part of the school’s objective to provide an all-round education for our pupils. As such, every pupil from P3 onwards is required to participate in one CCA during his/her primary school years. CCA has been built into the curriculum time to ensure that all P3 to P6 pupils participate in one CCA.

I believe its important to let the child choose the CCA he/she likes, instead of we choosing the CCA for him/her to plan for DSA in the future.


My neighbour kids were \"forced\" to take up CCAs which were suitable for DSAs and often I pitied them cos they looked unhappy on their CCA days.

I think this is a complaint from many parents. My daughter has complained that a few of her friends were chosen to join the badminton club early but she wasn't and she felt she was just as good as them I didn't know she was interested but she said it looks like fun so maybe she would end up being good at it just because the enjoys it. And, if not, it might be something she would continue with long-term as a form of exercise.

She wants to join choir next year but you have to be selected so she is already lining up her back-up plan - Brownies, which anyone can join!

When my son goes into school, I shall request a Meet Parents Teachers day, so that our child can enjoy at least a few sports and games, without the stigma of "You must be Good in this Sport before you are admitted".


Early physical sports and games, and the children enjoyment of these games are all part of having a happy childhood. It is timely that the MOE has disband the bands. I feel we, as parents, should have a say in how the schools are run, as our child will be there for 6 years. From experience, these 6 years are crucial for child physical and brains development.
