Suzuki Violin - Discussion

Busymom:
:oops:Hi Chamonix
Technically, we are not from the same music school as my DD takes her lesson at the teacher's home.
Fully agree with your statement above. That's also another reason why I think 1-1 lesson could be better, as my DD still drives me mad with her wrong bow hold and a bow that goes all over the place. And having more time is definitely a plus, at least we can go through each song and correct anything that is not right.
A big thanks for your advice! :thankyou:
Glad to be of help.

[ Just to share that the Pre Twinkle \"Up Like A Rocket\" is for ensuring the bow hold is steady, ie. hold the bow upright and move the arm up, down, left & right while chanting the rhyme, ensuring the bow doesn't tilt sideways.
Thanks for the sharing too! I wasn't aware of the PreTwinkle. Haha, another good trick to get my kids practise their bowing. :evil:mum05:
Have fun practising!OH this is so wonderful, now I can 'sing' the 'words' whilst my girl those tunes! Am sure she'd enjoy practicing better, lolz
Thanks chamonix!
P/S : Are they the original lyrics? heee
To add more fun, you can come up with your own lyrics too.

Any parents has experience with Sylvia Khoo? I would like to hear from you.
Do a search in the search box on our http://www.kiasuparents.com. There are some comments on Mandeville spread across our site.quixation:
Anyone has any comments about Mandaville ?
And particularly any teachers besides Sylvia Khoo for suzuki violin? -
Ms Yah, Gabriel Ng’s 1st violin teacher, Gabriel is in Menuhin UK now.

Is Ms Yah at Mandeville too? How is she like and her style of teaching? Thanks!

She was NAFA teacher many years back, now she is a private teacher. Her niece Helena Dawn (14) just left to Menuhin too. Janell Yeo (16) in US , Edward, winner of Young Violinist Competition are her students.

Hi luckystar,
Do you have her contact number? You can pm me too. I’m looking for a good teacher for my 6.5 year-old daughter who is currently learning Suzuki violin. Thanks!! -
Busymom & Chamonix, you have PM!

Hihi,
My own tots to share...
I think it is great if parents understand the outline of lessons, participate actively and help during the daily practise at home. I am a private violin teacher and from my observation, the students who improve tremendously are the ones who have their parents guiding them, esp at the beginner stage (eg suzuki vol 1).
Nowadays, I would encourage the parents who can guide their children for their daily practise at home to actually pick up the violin and learn with their child. It is not formal lesson for the parents but instead I wanted parents to understand the violin techniques and not theoretically basis.
I strongly encourage sight reading. I would prefer them to be able to play independently and not relying on numbers etc. Sight reading is important if the student is intending to take ABRSM examinations. -
Hi all,
I’m also looking for a violin teacher for my 8 year old. We wanted him to have the flexibility of a home teacher and we’re not the "must-do-grade-8-by-10-year-old" type. It’s really to build up his musical education and would very much like him to enjoy the process rather than the cramp-school style which he is already "enjoying" in our education system.
He’s on and off on the Suzuki since 4 and already well into book 2.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated. BTW we live in Bishan.
Cheers!
