I think choosing a younger person in this case is a strategic decision. How many more election can Eric stand in? Maybe 1 more before he decides to retire? On the other hand, Gerald has a couple more given his age. It's also good to expose him for the purpose of the party's succession planning. Potentially he will become the next in line after people like LTK and Sylvia retire? At least now they have young ones like pritam, yaw shin leong, gerald, glenda. I admire CST but looking at his party, it's a very good learning model of how succession planning went wrong and affect the party's survival. I hope WP will not be like that.


I don't recall hearing both of them speak or it didn't register as I was more interested in the hot ones. But I also heard comments that Gerald Giam is not bad so age aside, maybe from a competency point of view, Gerald is better???? I can't tell.

But I still feel that WP made the right choice. It's unfortunate that Eric feels strong about it and resign. But I still feel that it's more of a face issue.

I agree with this ie. on the succession planning bit. It is a strategic decision and WP has shown us so far that they (or LTK) is a good strategist! ET although he said he will let WP decide but then now wants to quit.

Just take NSP for eg. if they are offerred an NMP seat, do you think one of the leaders will take up or they will let Nicole Seah take it up? What if popular choice is NS, so those leaders got to quit? BTW, read that there would be leadership renewal for this party. The one leading now going back to HK to join his family since he did not win an MP seat. I am wondering where is the Commitment, Strong Leadership and Strategy for this party?

As for Mr Chiam's party. Yes, successor is his WIFE. For goodness sake! So will the next successor be his daughter?? Sorry, can't see any succession planning here. He has done a lot for PP but sorry, if you ask me, can see it coming that his party would lost this round to PAP.

For some reason, I do not like to see husband and wife team. Like mama and papa shop. There was this party with both husband and wife contesting in the same GRC right?

Back to WP, so NOT EASY at all when you see the \"dis-organization\" of the other opposition parties and the post-election effect and what they intended to do. Therefore I tend to think WP is stronger in strategising and succession planning.

For PAP, they said now MP only serve 2 terms ie. 10 years. I also don't understand why if they are good can't serve more? Why? Seems a bit too young to retire some of them. Their \"succession\" planning is a bit odd!
