I do not understand on what basis some opposition parties are calling for by-election.

MM & SM are just leaving the cabinet, not the parliament. They continue to be MP of their respective GRC.

There is no basis

Those calls reflect their immaturity

I think the Opp based on the probability of them winning Marine Parade if GCK were to announce his retirement from cabinet...

I donโ€™t think they will dismantle the GRC system. Not yet anyway.

But I think they may strink the GRCs surrounding the vulnerable areas of the North-East ie. to 3 or at most 4 Ministers anchoring it. Because most vulnerable GRC likely to fall the next round.

As for those in the West-Central, unlikely to split because it is to the main incumbentโ€™s advantage. Not sure about Tanjong Pagar though next round. It is now so huge but it is likely to split only into 2.

My main gut-feel and wild-guess!

Unless he resigns his seat but still no obligation of a by-election. Just like Ong Chit Chung case - his vacancy was covered by other team members till the GE

Farrer Court also in Tanjong Pagar

And Watten Estate in Kallang

Happy Mama:
If rumours of her getting tripple promotion to Director at E & Y is true, then the hole is sealed forever for her. :imdrowning:

I heard about this too. Not sure how true. ๐Ÿ˜‰

:yikes:
If true, think a lot of people would lose respect for E&Y too
No, why not? Although I am quite sick of this TPL issue, since people are still on it, I just add in my 2-cents worth again.

Put yourself into EY's shoes, one of your employees is a nominated MP at a huge GRC. You still peg her at associate level. What would people think of you? Dunnoo how to spot a talent that's what! So it is not inconceivable that EY would promote this person to Director (equivalent to VP) status which is quite a high rank.

Whether you like it or not or deem fair or not is irrelevant.

Not sure what's the full implication of their \"retirement from cabinet\"... since it's still pretty vague...
- no say in policy making?
- no longer SM/MM title?
- no longer getting full pay?
- no voting rights?
- or just playing politics?

- no say in policy making? (same as rest of back bencher)
- no longer SM/MM title? (of course NO)
- no longer getting full pay? (only MP allowance)
- no voting rights? (same as any duly elected MP)
- or just playing politics? (same as everyone, you and me)

Agreed. When SDP only remove all their posters 1 week after GE also show their ability in operational execution.
