Many Singaporeans like to live simply, ignoring the fact that many things are not what they seem to be. It tends to make them happier not know too much. As long as there's food to eat and a nice home to live (有得吃,有得住). I guess you could say I am one of those. My prayers are always of little ambition - 出入平安. So, I must say I am very much surprised that I have contracted Post-Election Syndrome.
From FB, to political sites, to ST (if I can get hold of a free copy
), TV/ Cable news, youtube, magazines, political party websites, etc., there's a yearning to find out more. When there's no more news to read up, I'll dig up news in Chinese. When there's no local news, I'll dig up foreign perspectives. When I can't find anymore news, I'll read up on blogs, informative and analytical ones. It is as if it is the next most thought provoking and thought stimulating thing, admittedly more so than parenting issues (to me at least
).
There are times when I need to maintain self-control and rehab myself from all these, only to come back to it when I am back at my desk, in front of the computer. I wonder how long this syndrome will last. :imdrowning: -

I think they cannot put HSK directly as Finance Minister yet lah! That would be too much don’t you think? Finance ministry very serious port. hor? But I expect later on he would be given his experience. Right now in MOE, although quite surprising but then we just have to wait and see…

The spectre of having to manage multiple political threads made us decide that it is better to continue to keep all things Singapore politics in this one thread. We have combined all the political threads into this one thread and we will keep this thread online indefinitely.

:rotflmao: No... I'm no soothsayer. Like I said to someone before (old age catching up with me, I can't remember who), this thread is like Geylang  . If we ban Geylang, then those activities will only go underground or spin out of control. So better to have it in a single, well-known place, so that it is easier for us to manageChiefKiasu:
PM Lee appoints panel to ‘review’ ministerial pay
May 21st, 2011 | Author: Temasek Review
Yielding to mounting public pressure, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has appointed a panel headed by NKF Chairman Gerald Ee to ‘review’ ministerial pay.
The announcement was made after the new cabinet was sworn in a hour ago at the Istana by President S R Nathan.
In his speech at the swearing-in o fthe new cabinet, PM Lee said:
“One important area for review is political salaries. We will always need committed and capable ministers. Politics is not a job or a career promotion. It is a calling to serve the larger good of Singapore.
“But ministers should also be paid properly in order that Singapore can have honest, competent leadership over the long term. I know that Singaporeans have genuine concerns over the present salaries.
“Hence I am appointing a committee to review the basis and level of political salaries. The committee will be chaired by Mr Gerard Ee, Chairman of Changi General Hospital and Chairman of NKF.”
With the retirement of nine ministers including the two former ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong, the number of ministers in the new cabinet has dropped to 15 from the previous 21.
The obscene pay of PAP ministers has been a sore point of contention among many Singaporeans though Goh Chok Tong proclaimed during the election that the ‘majority’ of Singaporeans have ‘no issue’ with it.
The pegging of ministerial salaries to the top earners from the private sector was introduced by PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew in the 1990s to enable the PAP to recruit the ‘best talents’ into the government.
PM Lee is paid more than $3 million dollars annually, or more than 5 times that of U.S. President Barack Obama.
The surprising announcement came in the aftermath of the 2011 general election which saw the PAP’s share of votes dropping to a record low since Singapore’s independence in 1965.
The opposition also won an unprecedented 6 seats and a GRC for the first time in the history of Singapore.
While some netizens applaud the move, others are more circumspect. Kelvin Ong remarked sarcastically: “Maybe after the review will increase?”
It remains to be seen if PM Lee is really serious about reforming the PAP or merely putting up a ‘wayang’ to placate disgruntled Singaporeans.
http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/05/21/pm-lee-appoints-panel-to-review-ministerial-pay/
