I remember when I was in secondary school, Sec 1, my school is in Bukit Timah and flood occur quite frequently. However, when they finish some drainage work, flood no longer occur, that is when I was in Sec 2. It is more than 20yrs there is no flood in Bukit Timah. 20yrs plus later, it starts to flood again.

Today, I passed by Bukit Timah, just wondering if it is the downline line that cause the flood again. Sometimes I wonder, tax payer pay so much, but the people who do all the planning never plan properly and study properly so instead of solving problem, it create another problem.

        Exactly my thoughts/experience... don't tell me we're schoolmates? :?
Remember once during flood, we walked from Bukit Timah to MacRitchie in order to take bus home...

me too and I remembered the Adam road stretch which would be flooded everytime there was a heavy downpour and the canal along it also.
Once during exam, there was a postponement of a paper because many students were stuck in the jam and flood waters...

\"SINGAPORE: The Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) has said it is disappointed with national water agency PUB over the Orchard Road flood on Sunday.
Its executive director, Steven Goh, said the incident on Sunday felt like a repeat of the floods last June.
\"It's kind of like an anniversary for us. It happened last year on June 16, almost (around) the same time,\" Mr Goh said.
\"This has caused a big concern because... we suspect the problem's been transferred from the downstream of Orchard Road to the upstream of Orchard Road where Tanglin Mall and Forum are located\"...\"

See who talk louder now... the rich stakeholders of Orchard Rd... or our rich Minister... :imdrowning:

I think last year Orchard Rd flooding has sth to do with Orchard Ion being built. That piece of land used to be a greenery park that could absorb rain water. Now with huge amt of soil removed for the shopping mall, where can the extra water (that is not drained away via the man made drainage system) go?

With the raised road lvl along some stretch of Orchard Rd, the issue just got transplanted elsewhere. Tanglin Mall stretch is now on lower ground. So it became the next unlucky occupant.

Urban development is causing stress on our land. These floodings are clear indications. Why should our land be used for building more shopping complexes when many new malls are under-occupied? We wanted to boost ourselves as a shopping heaven, now at the expense of becoming a laughing stock.

SLA is releasing more green lands for building residential/commercial buildings. Can bear to see green land lying around unused??? China Shanghai and Beijing are living examples of excessive urban development. I really fear that one day when we look up into Sโ€™pore sky, it is murky like Shanghai.

The recent DTL2 has removed many green parcels of land in the west region. The excess water will hv nowhere to go but Bt Timah via the canal.

We should not be spending money to dig deeper drains/widening drains/raising road lvls. Just keep in simple- reserve more green parcels of land. Let nature takes care of the rain water like it has always done in the past. Why are we taking away the natural defences against heavy rainfall?
