DD has started writing journal, she creates and draws her own front cover, making her own journal, she feels that it is very interesting, she enjoys the writing and making process of her own journal.
DD also writes English and Chinese compositions, although she faces some difficulties and needs some assistance, but we encourage her, continue writing her own compositions.
Kitchen is DD’s another playground, she likes to help her mother does some cooking preparation work occasionally, she always asks her mother to teach her how to cook!
Will let DD try some baking and microwave cooking with supervision. -
I'm new to this forum, but already a parent of 2 young children, #1 is k2 this yr, #2 is bb dragon!

Shall I be worried? My child still struggling to spell to twenty, though he can read fairly well and probably if have to spell phonetically( he’s rather reluctant). The emphasis of his school is less academic as compared to spore. They don’t give out spelling lists etc. By the time he reaches home(after3), there’s little time left to do much. Thinking of focusing to familiarise him with sing dollars and coins only. Is ability to spell etc number words necessary?

Hi, my youngest boy is also K2 this year. I started 四五快读 with him last year and currently we are on book 3. Quite slow now coz need to learn spelling and Hanyupinyin so may not be able to finish book 3 as per scheduled.whizzy:
I'm having this challenge to teach my son chinese spelling. Basically, he doesn't like mandarin, finds it difficult and don't want to learn to write them. any suggestions? and of cos, he has extremely short attention span, which makes it worse.
For Chi, I use 四五快读. We speak Mandarin so that helps him in the language. He likes to watch 喜羊羊, so we have a few DVDs of that show too. -

In P1, will need to know how to spell the numbers. But not to worry, in term 1, at least for dd1's school, it's from one to ten, eleven to twenty is term 2 if I remember correctly.
So there's still plenty of time to learn.

For ds, it's purely character recognition and getting use to using the characters.
For dd1, I also use it as a source for tingxie becos she does not have chi enrichment. Heehee -
Hi,
I am a WM turned SAHM. Yeah!
A bit lost of how I can help DS1 getting ready for P1 next year.
So far, we read bedtime stories occasionally, if I am not too tired [sounds bad right?
].
Thanks to tips from greatly committed parents from this forum. I have gotten gd tips + recommended books so as to kickstart a learning program at home
I just started DS1 on Peter & Jane yesterday - 1a & 1b.
He finished Book 1a with little help. I realized he can actually read about 85% of the words himself. As he is keen to continue reading, we continued with book 1b. After reading a few pages together, he \"snatched\" the book away wanting to continue reading on his own. I am surprised, happy - I got him interested in reading finally - with simple books - a great tip I hv gotten here.
This left me thinking - the school is teaching well!
I know their pre-school uses the spalding method to teach English but didn't really bother to understand it.
I am excited after some reading online last night, they use phonograms (sound picture) to teach kids to read. I am impressed and am eager to share
Hope it will be useful to u too.
Check out the Logic of English - they hv free teaching videos online!
cheers, -
Hi, I am work at home mum. Hence, able to homeschool my dd. She is also attending a few enrichment classes as I am a KS mum.
My dd has already completed the Peter and Jane series, except for 12b. I do give her spelling and tingxie.
I am very grateful to my employer as I can homeschool my dd and am able to guide and discipline her. My focus is still to lay a very strong foundation for her before she proceed to P1 next year.
