:sad: The responsibility is now thrown back at the parents.
Wow! A true-blue live-in-the-ivory-tower minister. I was right when I said the only change would be for the worse when a new minister took over.2ppaamm:
the Education Minister was asked this very question. Why are we not looking at the Finland education system model, that is rated the best in the world, and adopting some of their policies?
His answer? He sent a person to study their system. But he also found out that they are here to study our system. The impression given was that we have a better system than theirs. Nothing short of surprising, as all teachers in Singapore claim that we have the best education system in the world, without proof, support or validation. -
Without the parents involvement, i don’t think Singapore Education system is where it is today.
I doubt MOE or the education minister are going to revamp the age old system (given today’s fast moving technology and thinking) since they know that the system by itself will be able to sustain naturally especially Singapore parents are kiasu who do not want their children to "fall" badly. -

:goodpost:
I suppose it's not the kiasu mentality but as parents, we do not want our kids to fall badly. If we decide to have children, we want the best for them and as a mum, would I have the heart to see my children fall ?
As Singaporeans, our kids will attend mainstream schools. Education Minister does not find anything wrong with the system...without parents, the system put in place will not succeed. -

No matter which minister takes over the education minister role, he/she will NEVER understand what parents on the ground level are experiencing. Our ministers seem to live in ivory towers.

Our ministers seem to live in ivory towers.[/quote]Like all parents before us, we'll just have to cope ourselves. I'll never expect MOE to understand, be it syllabus, quality of teachers, their silly KPI system, that bell-curve effect. They are more busy boasting about our students' results - which the results of OUR (parents') hard work, and they only care about getting nationalistic values to our children. What about the kids' welfare? The kids' passion? The kids' potential? It is all back in our court. We've better buck up and look closely at these. It is our responsibility, not the government's to nurture our kids. And not withstanding we pay taxes. :scared:

Hooray for parents!
If you are one, give yourself a big hug :grphug: - you really deserve it.
If you know one, give them a big hug too - they really have a great responsibility on their hands and could do with some cheering on :rahrah:
As CA1 rounds the corner, I just want to say to the P6 parents that:
(a) the papers can be extra hard [aka \"wake up call\" style, extra easy aka \"serve to encourage\" style or fair [we've experienced all three]; but whatever the paper, whatever the results - look beyond the kid's grade and look at your kid -- address his/her needs - the score on his/her paper only tells you a quantitative mark;
(b) after the results, whether your child has done well or not, that's not as important as helping your child overcome his/her weaknesses [academic/habits/traits]; after all, even if you are just looking at the final score, CA1 is not the PSLE [ the race is not over yet] and helping your child overcome a weakness gives your child a victory to motivate them to push on throughout life, even when the going gets tough and naysayers abound;
(c) If your child is disappointed after the CA1 results, don't give up on your child - there will still be 7 months more to make amends; analyse his/her weaknesses, support with the right resources and teachers [from wherever - tutor/relative/classmate/parent/school] and praise and encourage efforts.
I've seen the best of kids crumbling under expectations [sometimes their parents' but also many times, their own], so the right word from a parent, the right response from the parent, makes a lot of difference to them.
Have a great week ahead everyone! -

Thank you for the encouragement.
I doubt schools will set easy CA1 for P6...many will set papers to WAKE the kids to REALITY. In fact, my son told me this CL paper will include compo :faint: After all these years of having tough CA/SA papers thrown at us, I'm kinda immune.
Told my son PSLE is very important but that doesn't mean CA1 isn't. So, he still has to put in effort and have the right attitude.
