2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

psle2011mum:
Hi psle2011mum,In 2011, after SA1, DD took the rest of the day of the last paper off but we were back at work the next day choosing to keep the pace humming... I know \"Bad Mommy\"... I'm not advocating it (you need to assess if this works for your child) but we did this.
By end of SA1, I had started \"insulating\" DD; we didn't attend all the 'extras\", the \"intensives\", we tuned out to what the school/teachers \"emphasised\" and we worked with our daily schedule fine-tuned and catered to DD's individual needs. DD went to school to play with her friends and came back to work on PSLE preparation. We focused and kept the distractions and detractors at bay.
June Hols was \"final weak areas spotting\" time, so that after that, in T3 we practiced for PSLE Oral and trained for the stamina to finish the PSLE papers in the way they would be taken.
In T3, we stopped the assessment books ( we weren't doing that much by then anyway) and used exclusively the papers from other schools. Exam taking techniques were emphasised and I started spending more time looking at DD to see how she was tackling a paper to make sure she translated the exam techniques I had tried to teach her into a habit of the mind.
Cruel and unusual punishment for our kids? Absolutely!
I am not advocating these methods, just sharing what I did with the limited time I had.
In Sec 1 this year, DD is so on her own (24 hours in a day is not enough for FTW and housework I'm afraid..so I'm totally hands off now). Lang Arts (Eng and Lit combined) dropped to a B4 but she was scrapping A2s and A1s for the rest so I just closed my eyes (and my mouth)... and spent more shin time praying for her.
She makes her own notes, ploughs ( not very thoroughly in my view) through the resources I put together for her (copied from her seniors and of course DD1) and manages her own time. My heart is in my mouth a lot of the time but it's time to let go and just as DD1 made it, I guess DD will too...
The PSLE can be crazy but it by no means should define your child. It is a differentiation exam not one of assessment of ability so remember to look at the results with this in mind.
Hang in there everyone...and a very peaceful and restful Mothers' Day to the many wonderful mums here at the forum. GB! :salute:
:thankyou: for your valuable input. definitely welcome more sharing so that we can benefit more from your sharing . -

I am taking a breather every night, after kids sleep, by indulging in wallpapers of Nicky Wu. Strange leh, why didn't I dream of him ? I would be so happy :rotflmao:janet_lee88:
Son's tuition as per norm...it's only SA1. Last paper on Thur. Some play time possible after that. Can be a little lenient in terms of work, ie if teachers don't pile hw. But that shouldn't be the case as they will be busy marking exam scripts and preparing report books.
You can try to take a little breather yourself .... Maybe u should indulge one day by immersing yourself with dramas / pics featuring Nicky Wu

This long weekend made me lose track of time & day. Kept thinking Saturday was a Sunday bcos there were many people at temple (Vesak day)...hubby got fed up of me asking 'what day it is today '? 2moro my boy has Math. A blessing to have extra day to revise. -
I was as lost as you are Janet over the weekend. I guess the exam fever has struck us more then the kids. How nice tomorrow will not come and there can be more extra time to revise.

And yes, this extra day enables DD to spread out her time revising Chinese and Science.
Can't wait for Thursday cos have a movie date with DD

Feeling so breathless today going through 2 kids’ revisions. It’s really very stressful with one in P5 & other in P6. Time just flew by today and we didn’t seem to cover much ground. SIgh…
Feeling so panicky when DS misreads exam questions and can’t remember some stuff. Literally found myself getting breathless. Now trying to catch a few breaths and then go and exercise with them.
Trying to console myself that maybe DS & DD will perform better in ACTUAL exams than during these practice sessions. -

You all very stressful leh... now I am feeling uneasy about having given DS his break from last week April. :nailbite: :nailbite: :nailbite:
