Somehow I felt my son didn't come to P6 academically prepared. If parents can build foundation in P5, P6 will be much better. Last year was hell bcos he failed Math the whole year.

For my son, it is Chinese. Chinese teacher announced his marks in class today and that he has one of the lowest marks in class since he barely passed. Well he can come back and tell me about it as if it doesn't matter. :frustrated:

Regret not doing something about his chinese when he was in lower primary. Now i don't know whether it's too late. But still have to push on.

      Hi linden2000,

Nothing is too late. Take a good look at CA1 and SA1 paper which area your DS makes the most mistakes. Is it comprehension ? Compo ? Work on the weak areas. There is still time from now to Prelim and PSLE.

Don't give up without a good fight! At least at the end of PSLE, your DS can honestly say to himself - he has given his best so no regrets ! :rahrah:

      Jia you ! :stompfeet:
Hi. Thanks for the encouragement. Haven't seen the paper but would think it's compre in paper 2 and compo which he barely passed. While i'm tearing my hair out, he still thinks everything is fine and good. If only I'm the one doing the paper, then i think i'll be less stressed since i know i will try my best! While i know SA1 is not crucial to us since not going DSA, but 50+ marks is really worrying. Yes have to look at his mistakes in the papers and work on the weak areas. Thanks again.

To be fair, the kind of PSLE that our children face today is so much different from what we had when we were 12 years old.

I know it is difficult but we have to be very patient if we are coaching them ourselves. I am guilty of flaring up a few times myself this year alone cos what seems so straight forward to me , my DD just cannot grasp it. It is very :frustrated: and sometime I really want to 😢 .

However, with constant encouragement from our side, they will be more willing to try harder.

I keep telling myself - this is almost the last lap liao .... 忍 and just give your best shot to your child ! :please:

Yes, the psle today is definitely very different. For chinese, they are expected to be able to read chinese newspapers as they base some of the compre and cloze passages on newspaper articles. During our time, i doubt i can read chinese newspapers in primary school.

Yup have to be giving encouragement. It's just that looking at his attitude makes me frustrated. Perhaps for some boys it's like that. When something gets too painful or uncomfortable to confront, they just escape into their own world. Yes have to remind myself to be patient !

                    Hi Mummies,

May I know if it's another BIG BIG jump from P5 to P6? Thanks.
The jump from P4 to P5 is big because P5 papers follow PSLE format.
P5 is a critical year as most PSLE topics will be taught. P6, 2 terms to cover the remaining topics then 1 term for revision and it is time for the big showdown. In P6, homework and pace depends a lot on your child's school.
As told to us by previous cohort's moms, ensure your child understand the Maths and Science concepts taught in P5 as in P6, they will get questions which span across topics.

Same for my son. Results not in yet but he said the compre passages were hard so I am bracing myself. Now, I stopped thinking whether it's too late, just try to inch forward every single bit and :xedfingers:
