2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

Feeling much better today. Maybe because of what Chenonceau wrote. Thanks to all who have been encouraging.
I guess I’ll just have to have patience, sail with the tide and current, make the best of it and enjoy the beautiful sea which I have obviously missed out on the past few weeks. -

Ah, \"careless\" is forbidden ! I must remember this. What's the history behind ? chenonceau's suggestion ?I used to joke with DD that SA stands for Speed and Accuracy so have to be careful (cannot say the forbidden word \"careless\") and finish the papers and leave at least about 10-15 mins to check through.
I used to repeat this every time before my DD starts her revision papers :
\"Every mark counts !\"
So now the 3 words stuck with her liao :rotflmao:
Timer : Janet, when my son first started using the timer he was like that too ! more focused on the timer than the task
but he got used to it eventually.

I use the word \"careless\" liberally. In my house, the word \"stupid\" is forbidden unless I use it to describe myself.

Just to share a strategy which I use for my kids when coaching them for exam preparations (English). They should set targets for various sections and have a count down timer track them when doing practice papers. (Iphones are stopwatch is great for this as you can choose a "fun" ring tone for the buzzer.) When the buzzer sounds, move on to the next section regardless of whether he/she has completed the paper.
Over time, pupil learn to realise how much time each section demands of them, (Different pupils will take different amounts of time for various sections.) and adjust accordingly.
One important thing to keep in mind though is that you should try to keep the practices fun and engaging and not just a constant grind of doing paper after paper. Pupils will lose interest and motivation to do well. What I do is that I would actually permutate a question in various forms (S&T is great for this) so that they can have fun with the learning and at the same time get the necessary practice that they need.
Hope that helps a bit.
Cheers,

Have you guys started revision again? I’m feeling quite drain from the last round of SA1, hopefully next week we can start the engine again…

oh no, how can this happen ? My child was diagnosed with chicken pox and was given five days mc on Monday. Today, I brought him back to the clinic for review and another doctor said it is not chicken pox but normal rash due to hot weather.
Luckily this happened after SA1. -

My DS also used to play with the timer. Now it doesn't bother him anymore but he does check if he's on time. That reminds me, I haven't been using the timer the past few weeks. Maybe that's why he's getting slower and slower and slower! Should put it back in use. -
My son said they did a MOE survey in school today about who attends tuition, educational standards of parents, etc… Was this being done in other schools too?

MOE periodically will conduct such surveys, but usually the sample size is controlled and not too large.
