2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

PSLE 2012:
I found my DS regressing. He was getting simple things wrong for Math as well English. And this was playing havoc with his self esteem. Maybe it was fatigue. As a teacher, I should have known better but I was in panic mode for a while
.So I have lifted my foot from the accelerator. I will go full speed ahead when the 10 week countdown begins
Same here...very afraid he will get burnt out, so have to slot in play time to chill out. Or else candle burning both ends will be disastrous. Forget about GSS....no mood for that until Oct 3. -
I think I am getting more white hair this year ! :nailbite:

I think when they regress, it's an indication of approaching burn-out. For eg my DS marks used to be in the high 80s and 90s for all subjects and suddenly in SA1 he had low 80s for all except Science which he did well in. I don't teach at the primary level but to me if your effort is the same or more but your results are slipping, fatigue has set in. My DS told me that he blanked out during Math... Very worrying sign indeedPSLE 2012:

Today I really felt that I’m the one getting burnt out. Oh god pas give us the strength and patience for another 3 more months to get going. I just want the PSLE to be over asap. Really feel that it’s too draggy maybe we got no holidays this June. Sob sob…nevermind we will enjoy for 3 months.

Me too feel that I am the one burnt out!
I have fallen sick more times these last six months than the last six years put together.
I also need strength! 3+ months to count down! -
Not to worry we will motivate each other here. Jia you! Jia you!

Our most intensive study period is the middle two weeks. I let DS relax in the first week. School had two days excursions in the first week - one to a movie and one to the zoo learning about adaptations. Then spent whole last friday at Wild Wild Wet. DS was really happy.
DS now having intensive 3 hour science revision every day + 2 hours English revision everyday, Chinese twice a week. For Maths we set a goal to do 100 problem sums this week revising critical gaps. Next week, same thing. In between his sessions, he plays his computer games or does light reading. Promised DS last week before school reopens, we’ll go Wild Wild Wet again and ease up on revision.
Part of me feels very kan cheong but the other part of me reminds me that it’s important to have balance. Efforts will backfire when kids do too much cramming. The brain needs to rest & play in order to learn well.
I think it’s important our kids still have joy & laughter in between revision. Lots of hugs, jokes and family bonding. This saturday, inspired by the Minute to Win it TV show, we decided to have our own family’s Minute to Win it Challenge. Just bought lots of ping pong balls and kids are very excited by the coming Challenge. That’s been my plan to keep DS motivation high. -

I am actually focusing on Math this week followed by the other 3 subjects to be covered in the next2 weeks. But ds still needs to practice English everyday. Not sure if I’m doing the right way. Can share how you guys has planned the revision? Thanks
