Teachers (fine, maybe not all) are certainly having a good time.
Dump past year exam papers on the kids...that's it? That's called teaching? P6, PSLE :slapshead: Better still, ask students what their tutors teach. I reminded my son time and again, if any of his teachers want to know about tutors, EMAIL ME. -

:hi5: Mummy Janet :hugs:
Yes! I would tell my children that if T asks anything regarding their tuition / enrichment, they can e-mail or call mummy on the hp directly

My parents were disgusted when son said T asked him what method Math tutor used to teach...not just once. He had the cheek to ask :mad:janet_lee88:

Hubby told son furiously, 'If any of your teachers ask you this again, tell them to email or call your mother. She will handle it'. He sure is good at taiji. -

Does that mean his/ her teaching method ineffective ? Hmm ... Just thinking loud here. :scratchhead: -
Please help me understand :?
Why is it so unacceptable for teachers to ask what method did the tutors use? I can understand the 'anger' if teachers ask for & plagiarize the tutor's notes, but to learn & understand another 'new' method, why not??
The world is so big, there are sooooo many things to learn in such a short time. Unless the T is doing it too often, but if occasionally the T finds something good & keen to learn more, imo it's a good thing isn't it? Better than those T who are not interested to find out/accept better methods. -

Why should they use tutors' methods ? There is copyright involved when tutors have their own materials. Furthermore, can we be sure the teachers are asking the kids for methods to teach their OWN class and NOT the others ?
I've heard how schools are banging on their top classes to bring glory to the school. If teachers need to find out how tutors teach, imo it means they are incapable of teaching. Shouldn't they approach HOD instead ? -

I do not know enough, so dun wish to assume wrongly. But I think T are trained to teach 'standard' methods. For Maths especially, I believe there are more than 1 method to solve any problem. Some are more efficient than others. Some are easier to grasp (depend on kids probably). A good Teacher/Tutor is one who knows which method to apply & teach a child. So learning as many methods is always good.

As for copyright, I think applicable for notes. For methods, unless the tutor has come out with new methods of their own (then should apply patent/write a book etc for copyright), otherwise it's just applying of another different method.
If the T learns it to teach own class, the classmates benefit. (unless there is no intention to share ..... like what I see in some of my DD's classmates, refusal to share info). If to teach others (I suppose u mean teacher give tuition outside), that will be up to the teacher's own conscience. -

Then, it is right for the teacher to ask.
If the teacher sees the child's results improving substantially due to the tutor's teaching and intends to learn and benefit other students in the same class or other classes, I am ok with that too.
If it is for the teacher's own interest, it is obviously a big NO. -
I have no idea why teacher wants to know, and I do not want to know whyโฆsupposing my son has no tutor, I wonder what will happen.
