My DS is taking PSLE this year. He’s getting restless and bored at school. Said the teachers (all HODs) don’t teach much. He just gets loads of test papers to do everyday. How to stay on top of things if I don’t send him for tuition?

Think it is the same in many schools....basically, it's do, do and do.
        Does this method help?

Teachers (fine, maybe not all) are certainly having a good time.

Dump past year exam papers on the kids...that's it? That's called teaching? P6, PSLE :slapshead: Better still, ask students what their tutors teach. I reminded my son time and again, if any of his teachers want to know about tutors, EMAIL ME.

What is wrong with the teachers asking what the tutors teach? Knowledge is to be shared. Could be the teacher is trying to understand a certain method your child is using as there are many alternative methods to solve a mathematical question. It doesn't prove that the teacher does not know how to teach; he is simply trying to learn more.

Recently, my P6 pupil told me that her Maths teacher wrote a \"see me\" on her practice paper.
The teacher asked her if she understood the workings done on her Maths paper.
After she replied \"Yes\", her teacher asked her to explain the steps to her.
          This sets me thinking,
whether the teacher is really concern and ensure that her students understood different methods of solving OR
she simply wanna to ask my student to teach her the alternative method.

Why past year papers are not considered revision? Many teachers pull questions from assessment books and past year question to form worksheets.

Past year papers one after another is too much right? If teachers extract certain questions as a form of revision, it will help the child to practise what has been taught.

I see. You are referring to topical worksheets. Depending on the stage of learning/revision, the child should start with topical worksheets first before practising on exam papers nearer to the exam.
Janet, I have pmed you. Thanks![/quote]Doing past year papers of various schools expose the pupils to various types of questions.
Most teachers (if not all) will go through the tougher questions in class and hopefully these pupils learn along the way.
(but whether these pupils understand or not is another issue)
At this time of the year of a P6, most schools are already practising full sets of exam papers, not topical worksheets.

I will only experience PSLE "hell" 5 years later but can’t help to peep into this thread.

I’m trying to understand. I did 10yrs series to prepare for my exams, I think it was A levels. Doing other schools’ and past yrs exam papers, is it something like 10 yrs series? If it is I found it useful when I was doing mine becos I have to apply what I’ve learned. I figured by now the teachers have covered all the syllabus?

My son’s CL teacher hasn’t completed complete syllabus, but she is trying to finish the last 2 chapters. As for the rest, it’s doing past year papers now.

Math tutor chooses certain questions to get my son to practise…so it can be several past year papers but not full set. By now, my boy is very comfortable with tutor’s methods. Teacher told him to copy his method as answer, but my boy was lost and trying to understand it. So I told him to stick to method he is comfortable with…now is not the time to decipher new stuff.

The school teacher method is something new? The teacher never taught the method before?

For O levels, there is 10 years series.
For PSLE, it is the 5 years series. Presently, most schools are getting students to practise 2007-2011 set. It is good to take a look at questions set and recommended answers. Certain questions are 'common' for science and cannot be escaped from...although it will be rephrased.

Weather has changed of late...it can be cold suddenly. Can drink some chicken soup to nourish.

Looks different. I asked my son if he understood...he said teacher told class to copy it. But he isn't very secure using it.
