I would like to start a discussion on ways to reduce PSLE stress.

      Some of my suggestions:
      1) allocate more time for both English and Chinese compositions
      2) limit the format types for situational writing - eg to letter and email
      3) cut down on the syllabus - eg for Math, remove the topic Speed and for Science, remove the topics Communities and Adaptation.

      Any views?

Now that we are done with PSLE, I am sure many parents will wany to share our experiences...but even if we are able to put together our views and reduce the unnecessary stress, I doubt MOE will agree.

Point #3 you mentioned is something most P6s will agree to.

Actually the school has been stressing the kids to do many sets of paper and the route before seating for the PSLE is really stress for the parent and kids. I feel the school should not stress too much on very tough question after all the paper wasn't so tough right. My DD always get disappointed grade (not 80+ type except for Prelim) so kind of lower her morale. I really think the school should look into targeting the right balance in order not to kill their interest.

It seems like most of the schools have only one method to prepare their students for PSLE...ie getting past year papers done.

I feel that this is a big problem with the current system. All the schools, parents (myself included) and students are just going for quantity to get maximum exposure to the challenging and unusual questions. The child spends all his/her time doing the papers with no time to reflect on mistakes or understand the fundamentals.

Personally, I find Science to be the most challenging subject as the scope is very broad and answers are marked according to key words in the Answer Sheet. It would be difficult for teachers and students to work on the fundamentals if the syllabus is not reduced.

I am completely done with PSLE for my kids... no more PSLE stress... but onto next phase of secondary sch stress

              Hi Mum of 3,

I’ve not heard of many parents who mention their kids’ schools giving quality coaching for PSLE. It’s nothing but QUANTITY. That’s why many parents and kids are stressed out. I had tension headaches almost everyday.

Doing and doing and doing past year papers one after another.
Is THIS method the only way to revise for PSLE ?
If this method works, why would parents have to bring in tutors ?
Even if this method is the way to go, students are not taught to answer OE questions to score those precious marks. Science is a killer subject…it’s wordy but not some storybook that students can read and learn how to answer. Keyword, my foot.

I’m not completely done with PSLE…my younger one is only in P2. As such, I feel that SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE.

Why don't someone create poll on the most diffixult subjects. Think it is science

I have created a poll on 2 easy PSLE papers. The exam is already SO stressful, i want ppl to forgot the difficult ones remember the easy ones. I the results so far does show Sci is the most difficult one.

For those who have not polled pls do so. The poll will last a week. Thanks.
