2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

psle2011mum:
:goodpost:I scratched my head over the weekend to see if there was anything else I missed sharing about, but I believe my earlier posts are largely it as to the mechanics of what helped us for the PSLE.
I thus leave you with these small thoughts:
Why I share my \"tips\"
\"The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, \"The children are now working as if I did not exist.\" - Maria Montessori
God Bless!
Hi psle2011mum, I'm immensely grateful for so much precious tips -
Hi HAPPYH, tclhub, Mychildren and coast
My pleasure to share and tclhub, so glad to hear that your DD found annotating useful.
My DD took about an hour to do the whole OEC for the English Main paper [ annotating, answering and checking], and usually, I think she could complete the annotations in about 35 minutes; but this is not cast in stone, so perhaps you want to see how your DD progresses eg if you limit her to 30 minutes for annotations, does the quality of her work suffer, and then work from there.
I just recalled that in an annotation sample I did for a friend (to show her how to help her DD), I typed out the passage from the past year paper onto a Word document and then for every sentence of the passage, I followed it with what I had "mined" from that sentence ie what I could gather/understand from that sentence, including the questions that crossed my mind after reading that sentence. My annotations were in a different colour for easier reading. If you are trying out annotating and your child is scribbling everything all over the exam paper so you can’t even mark the annotations, you may want to try this. -
Dear parents… Need some advice. My DS has been selected for the RIPMWC in his school (some MATHS competition organized by RI). There will be some training to prepare for the kids for the competition. My main worry is whether it is going to take up too much time to prepare for it as I understand is not like Normal school math syllabus but more on MO. He may not have enough time to prepare himself for psle.
I am thinking of not signing on the consent form. -
Essential:
Just wonder how u allocate the past year paper to your child with school home work , and tuition work cum staying in school for supp class . My DS is fine doing in without compliant but I worry too taxing for him
In my own opinion, doing the past year papers is essential. It will help to expose my DS to different type of questions set in other schools (ESP those from top schools.) This will help me to guage where his standard is and work on his weaknesses. Some tuitors do use past year papers for their students too. My DS is rather busy too with cca trainings and other activities but I always manage to find time to let him do on past year papers with a lot of incentives for him upon his completion of papers
he realizes it is beneficial for him as he uses it to make sure he understands his syllabus well.

Hi thanks I will place order and let him do the past year paper. But my poor boy will have to struggle between home work and exam paper

Hi thanks I will place order and let him do the past year paper. But my poor boy will have to struggle between home work and exam paper
But have to be realistic that is not quite possible to finish all the papers hor
if my son can finish 50% of all the papers, I will be happy.

Thanks noted. Will let him do math and science .

This week is the parent teacher meeting week in school. So stress after the session. sigh…
psle2011mum, you are so great and successful in training your DD. Wish I will be able to say the same when psle is finally over. -
I was not stress before joining KSP. After joining, a bit stress. When read this thread become more stress. After a while, don't feel it anymore as it's like part of me now. I am gear up to be a 2012 PSLE mum mentally now!

I am stress too especially my DS schoolmate from the top classes have already completed 2 chapters for each subjects. My DS understand it is a important exam but … We need to support him all we can.
