Too many of these incidents, come on. Everyone should be educated to give and take, and be less demanding.
I dont go around Shanghai insisting people smile at me when I shop around. In fact, sometimes they can be rather loud, but we accept that this is their culture/style.
Someoneone should stand up to unreasonable behaviour or demands. -
I cannot tell from the video clip what was the context that triggered the anger in the PRC man. If it is nothing else other than no smiles, then he has to understand that not everyone is obliged to smile AT ALL TIMEs in a job as we are only human with some ups and downs from time to time. At best, in a customer service situation, we can demand no black & grouchy face shown to the customer but smiling is a bonus and something one must do willingly instead of on demand.
If we do not stop complaining about trivial things, one day we find ourselves being served totally by robots only. -
I was ever at Care4 looking at some electrical items. Salesman entertained my queries politely. but when a prc uncle came up and asked him, he was very brusque. Thought it was a bit unbecoming of this salesman, I think he should have served all customers equally regardless of origin. Nonid to fawn, or at least be polite.
Was ashamed that I share the same nationality as the salesman. -
i find staff at big department stores like ntuc, gian, tangs etc are getting better in service and smiling a lot more. but service at restaurants are not getting better, some really going south.

If the salesperson gives a black face or answers rudely, of course the customer will feel unhappy. If cant smile sweetly, at least speak with a pleasant tone.

NTUC Fairprice takes a very serious view on customer service. I recently sent an email to them, making a complaint abt a cashier manning the express counter w/o naming the cashier/time. Somehow they were able to trace who the cashier was and in their email, they said they hv spoken to her and will be appraising her again.
So far, those Chinese restaurants/eateries (non high class ones) I went to are ok. Surprisingly, the PRC waitresses are very attentive.
I think being a customer also must do her part. If one appears snobbish, it is really difficult for the salesperson to serve her politely. -
I also find the standard of service by chinese airlines (eg Air China, Shanghai Airlines, China Eastern etc) flight attendants better and better than SQ :offtopic:

she was the only air stewardess cos i remembered there was just a handfull of passengers and a very small plane. what an experience. was all the way. -

Some air passengers are really one kind. Die die must use the smartphone on the airplane even when the plane has started taxi'ing. I wish some air steward will tell such passengers off. -
US domestic flights tend to have people who don’t turn off their phones, laptops etc. Some are still merrily chatting as the flight’s taking off.
