      Here’s another one:-

      Mrs Lim wants to give her grandchildren some sweets.

      If each grandchild gets 4 sweets, there would be 3 sweets left over.
      If each grandchild gets 6 sweets, Mrs Lim would need 9 more sweets.
      a) How many grandchild does Mrs Lim have?
      b) How many sweets does Mrs Lim have?

      Please help cos by the time they come back with the correct answer from school is too late already.

          I dont know how to do it but I asked DD1 to try.

          total sweets is 4u + 3 = 6u - 9
          which is 2u = 12
          a) so u = 6 grandchildren
          b) 4u + 3 = 27 sweets

            In a class, 2/5 of the pupils liked golf and 7/9 of the remaining pupils liked tennis. The rest of the pupils liked soccer, how many pupils were there in the class altogether?

              2/5 of $480= $192 on bag
              left $480 - $192 = $288
              1/4 of $288 = $72
              Total spent on handbag and dress = $192 + $72 = $264
              Total spent on blouses = $488 - $264 = $ $216
              Each Blouse = $216/4 = $54

                Hi,

                Need help with this question.

                Charlene and Denise have the same number of stickers. After Charlene gave away 16 stickers and Denise gave away 52 stickers, Denise has 1/3 as many stickers as Charlene. How many stickers did Charlene have at first?

                Thank you!
                hi, offering my help.

                charlene should have 3u + 16 stickers.
                denise should have 1u + 52 stickers.

                draw an equivalent dotted line towards each model and u can see that :
                2u --> 52 - 16 = 36
                1u --> 18
                3u --> 54

                54 + 16 = 70.

                Ans is 70.

                  hi,

                  u should take the extra 3 sweets plus shortage 9 sweets.

                  3 + 9 = 12 (the no of sweets needed so that each child gets 6 sweets)
                  6 - 4 = 2 (each child gets 2 more sweets)
                  12 / 2 = 6 (there are 6 grandchildren.) ------ (a)

                  6 x 4 = 24
                  24 + 3 = 27 (there are 27 sweets.) -------- (b)

                    1 - 2/5 = 3/5 (remainder)
                    3/5 x $480 = $288
                    1 - 1/4 = 3/4 (spent on 4 blouses)
                    3/4 x $288 = $216 (4 blouses)
                    $216 / 4 = $54 (each blouse)

                    ans : $54

                      Done by my DD1 pri4, solved by drawing the model box.

                      52-16 = 36
                      36/2 = 18

                      Charlene has 18 x 3 + 16 = 70 stickers
                      Denise has 18 + 52 = 70 stickers
