      1 bowl ----- 3 units

5 Bowls cost as much as 3 plates

      3 plates ---- 15 units
      5 bowls ----- 15 units

      :thankyou: tianzhu!

        make it equal.In the qn they said 3plates=5bowls ---- 3*5=5*3 so plates=5units ,bowl=3units.

One way is to use the equal fraction/numerator method:

          cheers.

                2 2/3 = 8/3 = 16/6

                16 sixths.

Teacher: Give me a fraction between 1/2 and 3/4.

                  Sam: 2/3, because 2 is between 1 and 3, and 3 is between 2 and 4.

Question: is this reasoning always correct?
If not, give examples where it does not work.

                        Thanks, PapayaDad.

So we can pick any 2 fractions?
What if the fractions must be x/y and (x+2)/(y+2) like in the question?
                        Then is it always true that x/y < (x+1)/(y+1) < (x+2)/(y+2) :?
