        in the end

        m=24
        h=24

        work backwards, h gave 2/5…so left with 3/5 = 24
        1/5 = 8
        5/5 = 40

        h=40
        m=8, m gave 1/2 left 8
        so m have 16 at first

            Hi, I need some help for the following questions:

            (1) Ali, Ben and Charles had some marbles. Ali had 1/3 of the marbles.
            Ben had 1/3 of the marbles. Charles had 210 marbles.
            How many marbles did they have altogether?

            (2) Caline had 120 beads at first. She gave 35 beads to Danny and a
            number of Beads to Elle. Caline then had 1/3 of her beads left.
            How many beads did Caline give to Elle?

            Thank you in advance.

                Ali had 1/3
                Ben had 1/3
                So Charlier have the remainder which is also 1/3.
                1/3 = 210
                In total they have 210 x 3 = 630

                  Thanks for your answer. I got the same as yours. Thought I had made mistake and was quite puzzle with the answers given. Thanks for help and clarification.

                  1 more question:

                  Alan had 1/3 as many marbles as Charles. Ben had 5/6 as many marbles as Charles. If Ben had 48 more marbles than Alan, how many marbles did all the three boys have altogether?

                        Hi,

                        Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

                        1) Mr Wong bought 8 baskets of durians. In each basket, there were 35 durians. 2/7 of the durians were bad and he threw them away. He sold 5/8 of the good ones. How many durians had he left?

                        2)Dan bought some stamps, Ali bought twice as many and they gave 1/4 of their total to Betty. Betty bought another 30 more and found that she had 126 stamps altogether. How many stamps had Dan at first?

                        3)Jame spent 5/8 of his money on a dictionary and 7 pens. The cost of each pen is 1/6 of his remaining money. If the total cost of the 7 pens is sgd20 more than the cost of the dictionary, how much did James have at first?

                        4) There are some books in a cupboard. 1/3 of the books are in Chinese, 6 of them are in Malay and the rest are in English. If there are 42 English books, what is the total number of Chinese and Malay books?
