Mindstretcher - Discussion

Hi Callie, how old is ur gal? If like tat,is there time to do school work?
Mindstretcher English is similar to TLL in many ways... I have seen some of their worksheets and content pages.... but TLL materials are slightly more current and interesting and more difficult... That's my own opinion. I did contemplate to switch my girl to Mindstretcher but so many people are telling me the teacher my girl has is very good, and so tough to get in, give my girl some more time to see progress...so I am sticking to TLL now.Callie Tan:

Same as my DS too..I have to keep pushing and reminding what n how to do..Sometimes learning became unpleasant coz we have to keep up with the system..very challenging!

I agree with you that speed comes with practise which is why im beginning to feel Enopi just not right for him.
The centre your girl went to, whats the ratio of teacher to students?
My son has been with Mindstretcher(English) for about 5 mths already..I find their approach is good and on track with what the education system need. Then again, its only once a week lesson, still need reinforcement by us parents..
The ratio is 8 students to a teacher for my girl's math enrichment class...
We definitely have to reinforce all the enrichment materials... my girl has to spend 2 nights doing her homework from TLL... and one night for chinese spelling from天下 and to complete her Maths homework from her enrichment class... actually more work to do.
My gal is with tien sia,e&p and piano...already making noise due to hmwork frm almost every enrichment.duno which to pull her out once she goes to p1.
She never got formal help on english as she learn frm childcare n i coach her at home. Thinking of letting her try mindstretcher...
TLL entry has to b based on test or just based on school results?what is e expected score for school results to enter?
Dd was allowed into p1 level for TAS but schedule don't fit so din join.shez weaker in creative writing...[/quote]My girl is in P1 this year & is in afternoon session.
Yes a lot of discipline and planning are required to ensure that my gal finishes all her school homework as well as the enrichment homework... It is tough because I work late and need to entertain clients... my girl is normally home from her nanny's place around 9.30pm. Lucky thing my nanny will see that she does her school homework after shower & dinner. Once home, She will practise her piano then bedtime. She will do my homework/revision and the enrichment homework bit by bit every morning, either with me at home or when I send her to nanny's place...before she goes to school. Her Jiang Lao Shi and TLL and Concept Maths all hv homework... So parents who are thinking of sending their children for enrichments may have to consider all these factors...
My gal did the proficiency test and got in to TLL. Some said it's the results but I am not sure. TLL has P1 preparation course starting as early as Oct so they normally start conducting proficiency tests now.... -

I notice that MindStretcher do not have any makeup lessons if the class falss on a Public Holiday. So maybe at certain months the child would get only 3 lessons!
I find their make-up policy rigid and almost impossible. Never mind the fact that they cannot make up a class on PH, when you ask for make-up class bc the child has a school activity, it is also very inconvenient and near impossible. This year, there were 2-3 incidents where my child could not attend the class on the actual day. Was told that even if I produce a mc or a school letter that proves my child is involved in school, it is subject to approval.
The first two times we did not get to have make-up classes as both times exceeded the particular class limit and so was not approved. Even by informing them in advanced and with supporting letter,I had to call in on actual day of make-up class to check whether any child in that class is unable to attend, then my child gets to have the replacement.
Most recently, all P5 children are to attend the NDP preview on either 9 or 16 july which is a compulsory school event. I checked and was surprised that MS told me they have no arrangment yet (1 week before 9 july??) even though she said she's aware that it is a yearly event. This time my child gets to have the replacement class, but, they said I must produce the school letter to show that it is a NDP event. Really not impressed with their way of handling - Imagine asking every parent of the class to do that for a national event ?
I know of many enrichment centres that do not replace PH but will oblige for other cases if the make-up is done within the same week, so that the child is able to have continuity in learning. In the case of MS, their \"convenience\" seems more important than customer service. -
Hi All!
Please advise me,
Which centre is good in north region? -
Hi All,
I'm thinking of enroling my P2 daughter with MS for Math. Does anyone know if they require any assessment test, TLL, before admitting a student?
Are the centres in the Yishun & Sembawang good? Or is Bishan better?
Thks in Adv,

anyone at mind strecther phonics class at punggol. any comments?

Actually if it’s Public Holiday or School Holiday, MS dont do makeup class. At times, I felt this is ridiculous…as I believed the teachers will need to squeeze whatever curriculum that needs to be taught in the earlier week or later week.
Not only that, the makeup class is subject to class availability…I felt this is a bit inflexible. Probably, they can relook at adding 1 or 2 more students even if the class is full. -
Hi
Does anyone has feedback on Mindstretcher tampines English classes for P2?
I called last week and was told there is no high achiever class only achiever class available in this centre for P2.
does it mean they do not have the teacher capable of teaching at a higher level or not enough students? cos if its the former, then the standard will be lower right?
Anyone has kids in the high achiever class? Is the teaching method different or just the materials used or what?
