Hi,
Hi MMM,MMM:
Just heard from another parent who send his kid to Mindstretcher for EL. The son is still having issues grammatically and for compo despite attending the class. Not much improvement to results as well.
Difficult to have a good centre......
any good centre in the west that teach P1 preparatory? Urgent to find or will put my DD1 at Read in a week and mpm maths.
What about 'The Alternative Story' at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre?
Just shifted my P4 son from Mind Stretcher to there.
My son been studying in Mind Stretcher since beginning of the year but his grammer and composition still need to improve.
He's quite enjoy his class at The Alternative Story.
Every lesson, he's teacher will feedback his weakness and ways to improve. -

Agree with what catddy2002 said about The Alternative Story. Actually, my two younger kids have been with them for slightly more than a year. They are at the Yishun branch. The older one takes all 3 subjects and the younger takes English and Science. My girl who is in P6 this year passed Maths for the first time after being with The Alternative Story. Her science was about 60 plus in the past, now it is 70s, almost 80. For English, her composition was picked by the teacher to show to the whole class as a good piece of writing. That never happened before. Overall, her English, she topped her class this year for prelims. My youngest also improved quite a bit. I recommended this centre before to some forummers but never really talked about it but I have seen a lot of improvement for myself for my own kids. I can't speak for other parents as I don't usually go down to the centre to pick my kids but I can really see improvement for my children. It is quite a new centre from what I know. But to me what is most important is effective teaching. -
Hi mummy of 3,
Thanks for informing, but there isn't any suitable centre which is near my place & is too far too.

Hi fongg and catddy2002,
Do you know where to get information on The Alternative Story?
I am new here and am new at the enrichment centres thing too, I have
only heard of The Learning Lab, BC, Morris Allen so far.
Do you mind if you could provide more information like their website? -
hi, MUMMY OF 3
he is in p5. -

Which teacher is good in Tampines?
I do hope that the same teacher will be taking him next year. The teacher hinted to them that he will be following them up but it's up to the centre management to decide.
Also, It all boils down to the tutor. If your child isn't responding well to a tutor, you might want to try others within the centre. Ultimately, don't forgo the good materials that the centre has to offer just because there is a mismatch of tutors.
Do you know what's the qualification of teachers in that center? Are they ex-teachers? -

they have their own thread which you can refer to here:Hi fongg and catddy2002,

Well, they have quite a number of good teachers in Tampines. Every teacher has his/her own teaching style and it is a matter of which suits you the best.
Which level is you child in? I know for a fact that they have different teachers in specialising in different levels. For Tampines, the more prominent ones are Ms Lee (S), Ms Amy (M/S), Mr Khairi (E/M), Ms Lynn (E), Ms Chia (S) and Ms Irene (E/M/S) but each teacher specialises in his/her own subjects/levels. Even the phonics teachers are pretty good.
According to them, the teachers are NIE trained but I don’t think being trained necessarily mean that they’re good. For the Tampines branch, there are some ex-teachers and even current ones. So you have to go in with an open mind and see for yourself who’s effective and who’s not.
