Question:

A had 240 cards and B had 360 cards at first.
After selling an equal number of cards, the number of cards B had left to number of cards A had left was 1 :3.
How many cards did each of them sell?
Hi
The ratio of B:A should be 3:1 instead of 1:3.
After selling an equal number of cards, the number of cards B had left to number of cards A had left was 3:1.

      Hope this helps.

The Singapore Model Method for Learning Mathematics

I stumbled into this book while browsing in Popular bookstore. It is very readable with colourful models and has about 135 pages. It is published by EPB Panpac Education. It offers a comprehensive overview of the Model Method. However, its price of $32 (if I remember it correctly) is steep as compared to the usual guide/assessment books. But if you have a child in P3, you still have about 4 years to go, so 32/4 which is $8/year, this book is certainly a good buy.

For a great fan of Model Drawing,I wish this book has been published earlier. My learning curve will be much shortened.

I am sharing this book from the perspective of a father who has been struggling to keep pace with Primary Maths in his journey with his son. It’s from a father who has taken a much longer and tedious approach, and sincerely hopes that your learning journey will be a much pleasant one.

          Wishing you every success.

Hi Tweet, recently I observe from my children's maths worksheet and find that teachers don't seem to be greatly emphaise on using model like last time. They use comparison as far as it is possible. Does that happen to your kids school?

spoke to maths HOD, the teachers dont deduct marks for not drawing models to solve. As long as the children can work out step by step solutions, it is acceptable. Can broswe http://www.mathteach.com, very precise & easy to grasp models, recommend by one KSP parent.

                  Hi,

                  Need some help here.
Stumbled by DS1 math questions… i spent 30mins. still cannot solve.

Ali, Billy and Caven had some cards. Ali would have twice as many cards as Billy if Billy gave 28 cards to Ali. Both Billy and Caven would have the same number of cards if Caven gave 84 cards to BIlly. Given that Caven had 112 more cards than Ali at the beginning, find the number of cards each of them had at the beginning.

                  Thanks in advance.

                      tianzhu,

                      Thanks !!

i was trying to draw 2 different models and then after that, didn’t know how to proceed !

Just to clarify, in this question, the 2 scenarios do not happen together, right ? That is, scenario A is Billy give Ali, and Scenario B is caven give billy.

                        Hi Emelyn

Is your question from P6?Where is this question from?
Not to worry,I also had a few hard knocks before arriving at the solution.Your strategy is right.
