Thanks MathIzzzFun for solving my earlier question.

      Hi All,

      Another question that need help:

The diagram below shows 3 circles, A, B and C, overlapping one another. The total area of B and C is 4/5 that of A. Given that 1/6 of A is shaded, 1/5 of B is shaded and 1/3 of C is shaded, find the ratio of the area of A to the area of B to the area of C.

          Need help in this question.

5/9 of benny's savings is the same as 2/3 of jessica's savings at first. When jessica withdraws 1/3 of her savings and Benny added $70 to his. Benny then has $190 more than Jessica.
          a) how much savings does jessica have in the end?
          b) if Benny withdraws half of his savings. what fraction of benny's savings is Jessica's?

          Here's the solution.

            Hi,
Need help for this question part (b). (a) is 75l which my daughter got it right. (b) My daughter answered 3.5 mins. but wrong.

            Q) Pail A contained 20 litres of water at first. Pail B, which is empty, fills at a rate of 16 litres per minute for 4 minutes before the tap filling Pail A is turned on. Pail A fills at a rate of 11 litres per minute. Water is leaking from the bottom of Pail B at a rate of 1 litre per minute.

            (a) How much water is in Pail B one minute after the tap filling Pail A is turned on?
            (b) How long will it take for Pail B to contain 54 litres more water than Pail A?

            Thanks.

            Hi chrisu,

I did a quick check.. your daughter's answer is for the duration after Tap A is turned on, just add 4min for a total time of 7.5 min.

            cheers.

Dear Parents, hope someone can help to solve this 2 questions from 2010 Catholic High Prelim paper.

              1) At a conference made up of speakers and participants, there were 20% more men than women. the ratio of male speakers to female speakers was 8:5. There was an equal number of male and female participants.

              a) Find the ratio of male speakers to male participants at the conference.

              b) Halfway, 40 male participants left the conference and another 60 male participants joined the conference. in the end, there was 3/4 as many male participants as female participants remaining behind. How many speakers were there at the conference.

              2. At 9am, John was cycling from Point A to Point B. At the same time, Mary was cycling from Point B to Point A using the same route as John. Cycling at a speed of 4km/h faster than Mary, John would pass Mary 300m away from the midpoint.

              a) what time did they pass each other?

              b) If John took another 3 mins to reach Point B, what time would Mary reach Point A?

Really don’t understand why kids are being drill on this kind of questions…even adults need to think…

              Thanks.

                Hi Hershey,

Maybe something wrong with your part b). Since the net male participants is +20 and at first the ratio was 1 : 1, how can there be 3/4 as many male participants as female partcipants ? Either the question was wrong or copied wrongly.

                a) Men : Women = 6 :5
                Mspeaker : Fspeaker = 8 : 5
                Mpart : Fpart = 1 : 1

                Men : Women = 6 :5 = 18 :15
                therefore Mpart : Fpart = 1 : 1 = 10: 10
                Mspeaker : Mpart = 8 : 10 = 4: 5
