      If can selectively choose weekend to read, then why not 525/30 = 17.5. Thus the least no. of days would become 18 days which is not among the mcq answers. I think the answer should be 26days.

      yes, nowadays, maths is not so simple. Not only does the students have to contend with mathematical concepts, they have to contend with the ambiguity of the questions. They should at least have stated some assumptions in the questions, like, Sally reads everyday. But no, they leave it out, so that students are further confused. So many questions of these nature in the exams.

        Q) 3 boys Albert, Ben and Chris participated in a 100m race. When Albert crossed the 100m mark, Ben was at 90m. When Ben crossed the 100m mark, Chris was at 90m. By how many metres did Albert beat Chris?

          Hi

          Distance ratio -
          Albert : Ben = 100:90
          Ben : Chris = 100 : 90 = 10 : 9 = 90 : 81

          Albert : Ben : Chris = 100 : 90: 81

          cheers.

                  I agreed that this question is not clearly set. The best answer should be 525/30=17.5. Unless it is stated that the book must be read everyday without break, that is, taking into account idle time (day). If that condition is in, then another condition need to be there, on which day was the book received. If Sally received on Mon-the answer is 26 days, on Tue/Wed/Sun- the answer is 25 days, on Thu/Fri/Sat- 24 days. Perhaps student can bring this up to their teacher and forward their concern to the examination board.

                    J and E each have some marbles.If J gives 36 marbles to E,both of them will have the same number of marbles.If E gives 12 marbles to J,the number of marbles that J has to the number of marbles E has will be in the ratio 5:1.How many marbles does each girl have?

                    Hi this can solved with a model.

                    http://i55.tinypic.com/1zya8f7.jpg (click the link: its the workings for the question)

                    Thus,

                    E -> 24+12
                    = 36 marbles

                    J -> 24+12+36+36
                    = 108 marbles

                    Sorry my handwriting isnt really good. 😓 I hope its the correct answer and it helps ! 😂

                      2)If Ahmad gives Pillay 17 marbles, the ratio of his marbles to that of Pillay’s will be 4:7. If Ahmad gives Pillay 5 marbles, both will have the same number of marbles. How many marbles does Ahmad have? ( Singapore Chinese Girls’ School P6 2010 SA1 Maths Q10)

                      3)Ben and Marcus received some money from their mother. Marcus would have $64 more than Ben if Ben gave 2/5 of his share to Marcus. Marcus would have $144 more than Ben if Ben gave 2/3 of his share to Marcus. How much money did Ben receive from his mother? (Singapore Chinese Girls’ School P6 2010 SA1 Maths Q13)
